That's a seriously pretty bass. That deep Fireglo is wonderful.

i was looking at the last cs on ebay that a new forum member bought last week
I just checked the online tracker and it is currently enjoying a lovely stopover in Honolulu. I'll take some pics when I get it.

Don't get me wrong, I love Chris Squire, not in a 'funny' way, more like in a man crush over his bass playing. I think if I actually ever met the man I would be as giddy as a scool girl.

When I was younger I cut my hair like Chris Squire, smoked the same cigarettes as Chris Squire, dropped the same acid as Chris Squire, even used the same hair glue (gel) as Chris Squire. Called all my friends the names of band members in Yes when it wasn't even their real names,I even made a cape from my speedracer bedsheets and spun around in circles really realy fast to get that 'Yes in the round' feeling.*

I just could not justify going over 4k for a mint fresh out of the box, new car smell 4001 CS... but hey, thats just me
Now if they threw in Chris's cape and stripped jacket from the 70's Ithat would be a deal clencher for me :)

Screw the 'collectors' angle... I just want to play the sucker.

I was really jonesing for a 4001 CS for awhile until I got my mint 4001 v63 mg...
also purchase a 4003s both for under the price of one 5k CS with change left over.

*note: not all incidents in story are factual :)

Cheers,

I like Chris Squire's music and bass playing so much that I'm having my own CS made right now. I finally decided on a shade of yellow and it should be finished by the end of June. I already installed a RI HS and toaster in this 1982 4001S that I STOLE from ebay at under $1100.00. It has a slim, perfect neck, the electronics and appointments I like, now it will have the finish as well. As much as I like the CS models, my fear is that I'll get one off ebay someday and it won't be the bass I most want to play or record with, either because of the feel or sound. I have played one, Pete Greenwoods, and it was fantastic, but his is very early in the run. Also, I'm not willing to pay one cent over $3k for one and I would still have to play it first. I'm not a collector and I don't like case queens, so I would never buy one just for the investment. To the CS owners that bought them new, smart move! I wish I had been aware of them at the time.

+1 - I was aware of them in early '95 IIRC, and figured they were all sold out by then. I mean, only 1000, so they would have been snapped up, no doubt about it. Except then we learn now the run was never finished and basses were available long after '95.... :?

My CS is in the mid 500s according to the certificate, yet made in 1993 - not sure if that makes it early or late... For me, there's something special about each of my Rickenbackers, but that CS is really something exceptional. I really can't explain exactly why. I paid quite a large sum for it (although not current prices), but it's no case queen & I think it was worth every penny.

I'm quite interested in that 4002, but my recent 4080/12 purchase makes it harder to consider right now.

As a CS owner who bought one new, I wish I'd known how they were going to increase in value so much; then I wouldn't have sold it for £800 ($1600)! I paid nearly twice that for my 2nd one, without h/shoe, case or cert, although I eventually got a shoe for it. Still looking for a case that'll fit (it's a '91).

Mine's certainly no case queen and is moderately battle-scarred, but that doesn't bother me in the least. It's currently my go-to gig bass; oh, and it's the bass in my avatar (not that you can really see it..).
