How did you get into the Beatles?
How did you get into the Beatles?
All us Beatles fans can remember how we got into the Beatles...or can we?
The song that got me into the Beatles was "Hey Jude". My parents bought the "One" album in 2001, and I saw the commercial for it. I heard Paul sing something like "Hey Judy" or "Hey Jules" (surprise, surprise! My ears thought the song was called by it's working title!) and I asked my mom if there was a song of those names. She said "There is a song called 'Hey Jude'. Would you like me to play it?" I said sure, and she did. I loved that song, and by the time it reached the four-minute mark, I was singing along. I listened to the rest of the CD, and found some old Beatle records my parents had (The White Album, 1962-1966, 1967-1970). I bought myself a record player, and my dad had an old stereo system. I hooked it up, and ever since then, I collected every US Beatles album. By 2004, I had aquired every US Beatles album in stereo.
In 2002, for my birthday, I recieved a copy of "Beatles Gear". I learned about every instrument the Beatles ever played. The guitar I fell in love with was John's '64 325. I thought it was an interesting little guitar, and I hoped to own a 325 myself someday (May of 2007, I did have one, didn't like the scale, sold it and it's now in the happy hands of Arrow201). But seeing John and George playing all their guitars made me want to play guitar. I was given a beginners guitar, and today, I'm happy say thanks to John and George, I'm not that bad of a guitar player!
More recently, I made an attempt to collect every Beatles studio album on CD (as well as some compilations). I'm happy to say I have. It started in 2004 when I recieved "Hard Day's Night" as a Christmas present. Then in June 2005, I bought "Beatles for Sale" to show off to this girl I liked. 2007, bought "The Capitol Albums" Volumes 1 and 2 (May), as well as "1962-1966" and "1967-1970" (August). This month, I bought all the albums, from "Please Please Me" to "Past Masters" and I must say, it was worth the money.
The Beatles are definately one of the best bands out there, in my honest opinion. Without them, we wouldn't have had the other great bands (Notably The Byrds) and the other bands we like (The Stones) wouldn't be as big as they are today. Some wouldn't even exist (Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers)!

My parents have been playing Beatles albums my whole life, there was never really an epiphany moment for me.

4/9/64 Ed Sullivan, I was a month shy of 8 years old. My parents knew they were going to be on. So they made sure my brothers and I got to watch. They were amused, I was entralled..

Re: How did you get into the Beatles?
I always knew there is a band called "The Beatles" but I never listened to them, until...:
It was around 1990. I was 10 years old when I found an old cassette that my brother had in his room ("found" being the operative word
). I don't remember all the songs that where there, but I remember it had Strawberry fields forever and Penny lane as the 1st two tracks...
I heard it and I immediately fell in love, the rest is history...

So long and thanks for all the fish!
Re: How did you get into the Beatles?
I have two cousins who are brothers. Both are just a little older than I, but we still hung out together when we were kids. I remember the evening my family went over to their house for supper and to visit. And they told us about this English band called the Beatles. I thought that was an odd name. They told us to be sure to watch Ed Sullivan in a few weeks, because they'd be on. I did. In fact my brother and both parents watched the show. Life hasn't been the same.

The summer of '76. I was torn between watching 'Alfred the Great' (which I had watched and enjoyed the previous evening) or 'Yellow Submarine' which I had never seen before. I chose the latter and have never been the same- my road to Damascus moment for sure.

High school girlfriend got me into them. I had always heard their music but hadn't been bitten by the bug. She's still around 10 years later, and I'm still listening to the Beatles.

Re: How did you get into the Beatles?
My eldest brother has always been a huge fan, ever since he was a kid. He's also been a long time Wings and solo McCartney fan. When I was learning to play, I also had a friend who was a huge Beatles fan, so we learned a lot of early Beatles songs. Our ealry jam sesions were an interesting mix of Punk, Jame, New wave stuff, Beatles, and early Who, with some early Stones mixed in-with some 60s garage music thrown in for good measure.
Re: How did you get into the Beatles?
I was 10 and my sister made me watch Ed Sullivan. I wasn't "into them" until the next day at school when ALL the girls were a-buzz with newfound Beatlemania. Us boys soon caught on, because if you weren't into the Beatles you just weren't cool.
Re: How did you get into the Beatles?
Parents bought my MMT for a Christmas present...it was my first "grown up" record. It was all downhill from there....while my friends were into the music of the day, I was going to the record store and buying up the older Beatle albums and 45s.
Been out of step ever since, LOL.....

When they made their debut on BBC Radio and Radio Luxembourg in 1962. Yes I am that old.........
I remember the first time the appeared on the cover of the New Musical Express as well. I was a teenager at the time who loved music, especially R&B, jazz and the blues.

Re: How did you get into the Beatles?
I was a 4 year-old at the time and can still, over 40 years later, remember sitting in the back seat of my Dads '61 falcon station wagon. The radio was playing "From me to you"...... i've never looked back, they've rocked my world for the past 43 years!
I have nearly every album, video/DVD, 1 or 20 t-shirts,..... oh and, what were their guitars again?? i've got a few of those as well!
