$4.67 A Gallon

Post by admin »

I just filled up at the pump yesterday and at $1.23 a litre. This equates to $4.67 per gallon. To the toppermost of the poppermost! :(

£1.05 ($2.08) per litre in the UK at the moment, about 70% of which is tax  IMHO that's an unethical amount to tax any single product, but that's a whole other argument.

That price is likely to rise quickly in the short term here because of an industrial dispute which has closed one of our refineries in Scotland. Once the dispute is over and production gradually ramps back up the price will fall...no doubt at a slower rate than it rose...

As long as we continue to tolerate it and pay, there's little incentive for the providers to reduce the cost.

Holy carp!! £1.22?!?! Even for diesel that's extortion. You ever thought about using used vegetable oil http://fifthgear.five.tv/jsp/5gmain.jsp ... =On%20test ?? Free fuel (although you're supposed to declare it and pay the duty)

California:
18 cents per gallon Federal tax
17 cents per gallon state tax
The state also gets sales tax on top of this
Oil company profit per gallon: 8.5 cents

I paid $3.29/gal. in Va. Beach over the weekend, and that is about 25 cents cheaper than at home...Cheapest I've seen around, actually. Still, in Virginia we're seeing the highest it's ever been at the moment.

Heck, it was $3.09-$3.19 about 2 years ago when I was in California.

I agree; it's not enough. Also sales tax goes back to the county and the city where it originated from.
Oil company profit per gallon: 8.5 cents
OK, that's enough. :o

In about a month, my gas will be free I'm happy to say. Under the new contract we are working under, I get a new 4WD and a gas card. I am very blessed.

You think that fuel taxes should be higher?! Yikes. Keep me out of that. I think they should be less.

I listed the above info to show that the Fed and state governments make the most money off a product that they do nothing to produce, while oil companies, who do all of the work, jump through all of the hoops, and get accused of price gouging by congress, make the least off a gallon of any of the entities involved. If I remember correctly, oil company profits per gallon are less than Coca Cola makes off a gallon of soft drinks.
