My 2L TDI Audi does ~20Km per litre outside the city, this is 12.4 Miles per litre or 47 miles per gallon.

Diesels rule for open road driving, hybrids for city - why doesn't someone build a diesel hybrid so we can have the best of both worlds?gibsonlp wrote:My 2L TDI Audi does ~20Km per litre outside the city, this is 12.4 Miles per litre or 47 miles per gallon.

I've seen those oil can guitars in South Africa. Some are pretty slick (get it... oil = slick). Groan.
Anyway, on Guam gasoline in USA's most western territory where America's Day Begins is $4.25 a gallon or so.
Welcome to the USA!!!!
And we get ours from Singapore.
Best,
Timbo

Exxon Mobile made a profit of $11 billion last year.
At 8.5 cents a gallon, we're buying too much gas!

Soft Drink manufacturers and sellers of bottled water make more than twice that much profit per gallon. Are we buying too much soda pop and water?shamustwin wrote:Exxon Mobile made a profit of $11 billion last year.

I don't understand why one would be upset with Exxon Mobil earning a profit from a product they produce, while not even giving an indication that one is upset in the least that the Federal and state governments earn a profit double that of the producers on each gallon of gas that's sold, for a product they have no hand in producing, and do much to obstruct the production and refining of, which is a large part of the reason why consumers are paying so much at the pump. Profits would be lower if more production were allowed domestically, as it would lower demand, which necessarily lowers price. All of these lower speculation in the market, which drives up price. Given all this, anger at the oil companies would seem to be a bit misplaced, to say the least.

Considering the harmful effects of soda pop on the body, and the fact that tap water is safe to drink here in the US, I'd say, yes, too much was being bought.
Hey, if you can't rant against the oil companies, what fun is paying 4 bucks for a gallon of gas?

Not to mention soda leeches the calcium out of bones, particularly women. A major cause of osteoporosis in older women.
Can we talk of more pleasant things now?

My point was John that the media obtains their information from "industry sources and business analysts' and that why they report it. Then the local fuel retailers react. It's a vicious cycle. I don't blame the media. They have a job to do.johnallg wrote:Being in the media, I think you have it backwards. The evening news story predicts prices are going up, the local stations see the report, and dang if the next day prices go up. I point this out to them, that they are helping cause the rise in pump prices, and that makes me not very popular and I get cursory comments back.winston wrote:It's a $1.29/litre here. Thankfully my wife and I hardly drive at all during the week. Weekends though are another story. Speculators, the oil companies and government are doing a good job of conditioning the media to have us brace for the worst. They want us to get used to the high prices, since they are not going away any time soon or perhaps ever, unfortunately.

A little bit weak (my 2L TDI has twice the HP and the torque) but definitely a step in the good direction!
