Actually what finally fixed the great depression was WWII ... all of the government programs were just band-aids that made the poverty a little more tolerable ...

Thanks for the tip John! I'm just worried that she is going to lose the damn thing!

I've informed her already, that if I spend all this moolah on these things, and she doesn't take responsibility for the retainer and whatever other maintenance is required, I'll simply chase her with a pair of vice grips, yank 'em out and get my money back!

Well, not really, but I DID tell her that some kind of SERIOUS consequences would be invoked....I just haven't thought of something EVIL enough yet!

You know, I KNOW I need some mental help. It NEVER fails that when I have to spend a fair amount of money on SOMETHING Non RIC related, I tell my wife....."That could have been a (fill in the blank) bass, that would GO UP in value, not just a memory when I spend it on (fill in the blank).....Janey just rolls her eyes. :(

That's only partially true Jeff, since we were well on our way to recovery by late 1941. The boost to the economy caused by WWII was still financed by the US taxpayer, who in turn, liberated western Europe and defeated the axis powers. This was all done on our dime, still has yet to be paid back and as such, is still part of the national debt.

Going a little further astray, but actualy, the US was in financial trouble
by the end of WWII.
According to some, the reason for the whole flag raising on Iwo(the photo ,that is...), was to
raise more through war bonds.....

But THAT's a whole other debate......

And what's so wrong with being the dummy at the table, Dane?

Nothing, as long as you don't help elect another one.

Seeing this has turned political, I just want to say I'm so glad Mr. Gore was not in the White House on 9/11/2001.

With that, I am done here and I hope Peter considers locking this thread before it gets ugly. We've violated one of the unwritten rule of gab.

What?! I seriously doubt it would have been any worse, but I won't say any more on that subject here.

On the slowdown, I don't know if it's just this time of year, if it's the economy in general, or if it really is an overall slowdown, but it does definitely seem like things are on a downward trajectory in the Ric market.

Any reason why Pat Paulson isn't on the ticket this year?

I mean, sure, he's dead and all...but so?

Al Gore cracks me up ... He flies all over the world in his private jet telling us we need to reduce our carbon footprint ...

If there is a slowdown I haven't noticed it ... I work for URS Washington Division and I am really busy doing projects in Canada, Africa, USA, and the Middle East. We currently have a shortage of engineers. Anybody looking for work? We have a lot of future work under contract as well.
