$4.67 A Gallon

The lowest price I've seen for regular in SoCal this past week was $3.76 without going to an oddball brand gas station. Most gas prices that I've seen lately here the last week were $3.79 to 3.95 per gallon, depending on what city and area I am in.

I drive only when absolutely necessary and plan my routes with errands carefully. I wish many more people would do that.

We do the same thing Joey.

We plan our trips out and try to hit ALL the stops along the way. Every freaking dollar counts!

3 Cars / 4 drivers -Nothing fancy (2004 Ford Minivan, 1999 Chevy Malibu & 1998 Lincoln)

GAS for said vehicles: $100.00 weekly for the Van, $50.00 for the Lincoln & $30.00 for the Chevy. Total $9360.00 annual for GAS....I don't even want to THINK about the money I'm spending on CAR INSURANCE......

Soft Drink manufacturers and sellers of bottled water make more than twice that much profit per gallon. Are we buying too much soda pop and water?

I don't understand why one would be upset with Exxon Mobil earning a profit from a product they produce, while not even giving an indication that one is upset in the least that the Federal and state governments earn a profit double that of the producers on each gallon of gas that's sold, for a product they have no hand in producing, and do much to obstruct the production and refining of, which is a large part of the reason why consumers are paying so much at the pump. Profits would be lower if more production were allowed domestically, as it would lower demand, which necessarily lowers price. All of these lower speculation in the market, which drives up price. Given all this, anger at the oil companies would seem to be a bit misplaced, to say the least.

Paul, you might keep this in mind as you discuss the government 'profit' on gas:
By law in the US, the Federal gas tax money goes directly into funding for highway and bridge maintenance and construction, not for any other purposes. Same for most States' gas taxes. The roads you drive on are provided by gas tax revenue.

'Profit' is probably not the right word for the gas tax, at least in the USA.

Dean, the gas taxes don't pay for all roads and repair. They are just a contribution to the cause.

And of course out here in California, they divert those taxes to pay for something else, so the roads don't get repaired. Same with taxes intended for our schools.

Again I remind everyone the IRS tax for is a 1040. A 40 hour week X 52 weeks in a year = 2080. Looks like they want 50%!

I use LPG, currently 60 cents per litre compared to $1.40 for unleaded.

Over the last fourteen years I reckon we have saved around $60,000 in fuel costs.

I can't understand why more people don't convert their cars , especially when the government here gives you $2000 towards the cost (currently around $3000).

My brother in the Phoenix AZ valley drove an LPG equipped vehicle for years. The difficulty over here in the states is finding a station to fill up. I remember him saying he had 2 places he could go.

It's supposed to, but it ends up getting used for something anyway. In any case, it's obscene for the Federal and state governments to make more than double what the producers of fuel makes per gallon, no matter what they use the revenue for. It's also ridiculous that we're taxed for roads by both the Federal and State governments. The Feds should just get out of the highway business and leave the road building up to the states. I don't mind paying some tax to keep the roads paved, but the amount we're taxed per gallon is ridiculous, especially when congress drags oil company reps into hearings and accuses them of price gouging:

Wednesday evening I was heading home about 12:30 AM and needing gas for the weekend, saw it was still $3.739 at my favorite Marathon (USA owned) station, and remembering prices tend to rise here for the weekend, I filled up to the tune of $47.00. On the way to work Thursday, it was at $3.699 so I lost out. I felt better today when I figured out I would have only saved 50 cents.

I went to fill up the trusty Toyota today and it had jumped from 3.69 from when I last put some in, to $3.89! Not to mention some stations now are charging an extra .10 a gallon if you use a credit card!! WTF is going on?
You wonder why the country is in a recession? Everyone has to drive, trucks deliver food, food goes up, everything goes up.
"I'm mad as hell, and I'm not going to take it anymore!!"
