WIW? NOS Wavy Grover with Ferrules and screws

Post by prismacolor2 »

I have 4 of these (E/A side) and would like to turn them into parts I need or maybe sell some of them them. Not sure yet. What are these worth with the ferrules and screws?

Thanks!

G'day Steve,

A full set of NOS wavy Grovers in 2+2 format with all the timmings are probably worth around $275 - $325.

Given you have 4 on a side, rather than 2+2, you'd have to go on individual value of $60 - $80 each.

A quantity of two just sold on ebay with grommets for just under $150, about $75 a piece. I have seen them go for $40-$50 a piece though, it depends on the bidders and how bad someone needs them.

I remember seeing a pic of a pile of grovers that Pascoe posted long ago. I now have 28 grovers attached to basses and a spare set = 32 grovers. You never know when one is going to go bad but all mine seem to be in good shape. You could probably build a small pyramid with 32 grovers :) .

Can't you pop the cover and switch which side the ear goes on? When I reassembled a busted grover, I put it back together the wrong way at first, then switched it. It works fine.

Actually, the old grovers are "swedged" together and the grey pot metal doesn't take well to being reassembled. My tech, a rick expert (really) told me that, even if you get them back together, they become unstable so I'm not hoping to make a set of them.

Someone say Grover?

If you don’t want them I’ll take them.

I have been paying around $60.00 each for them as of late. You can never have too many I say.

Please PM me if you do want to part with them

I'd like to turn a couple of them into a screw pole pre-73 hi-gain pickup if possible for my 72.

Otherwise, I'll most likely e-bay them separately as NOS singles with ferrules and screws (folks usually need one)

Nah, not true, given the fact that 99.9% of them were never swaged correctly in the first place (which is why so many of them fall apart). I found a set of 4 on a side for my '72 4001, took two apart and reversed them, then re-swaged all of the pins on all four. They work great and shouldn't ever become loose.

in that case, maybe I'll keep them. if anyone here is confident they can successfully reverse them maybe I'll reverse two....

You can't really de-swage them, so this really only works if they weren't swaged very well in the first place and are already kinda loose. I re-swaged mine with a 1lb hammer and pointed punch.
