Last part of "All I Really Want to Do"

Ah yes; you guys are on it! Roger does apparantley to have "Changed" the outro to this song shortly after the release. At a current show, he plays it "Original style", and the whole thing is an octave up from the "Hollywood A Go Go", and "Shivaree" versions, lip synched, of course.

As soon as I get some time here, I'll post both versions, as I've got both of them pretty well sussed.

David appears to be playing along on that bit with Roger, so maybe the recording is a mash up of two guitars playing pretty close to the same thing.

Hi Guys-Here is what I think is pretty close to "Both" versions of the end of this song. Without a doubt, Roger is doing something different on the Shivaree & Hollywood A Go Go lip synched vids.

Basically, it's just the same thing, just an octave down. For the record, Roger also altered "Mr. Tambourine Man" sometime in the summer of '65, adding an F# passing note between the "G" & "D" chords in the verse.

This can be clearly seen on the "Faked" Ed Sullivan show appearance, and LIVE on the Big TNT show. But NOT on the record, or the early TV shows.

Unfortunately, there is not ONE live performance of "All I Really Want To Do" in the whole of their TV appearances, and until somebody comes up with some '65 concert footage, my analysis of the "Alternate" ending is just a guess, going off the lip synched vids as best I could.

At you tube, I came across Roger doing the song last year, and it pretty well gells with what the first chart here shows, like the record, and is in no way similar to what he's doing on these old TV shows.

Also remember this; that at least on the album & 45 (Single) version, the end part is played in a "Rolling triplet" style, and takes some work to get right (At least for me!!)]

After re-watching that video, I see that Jerry is on to something here. Looks almost like David takes over that high part (Not a Gretsche on the record, though??), and Rog adds that low part in.

Sure would be nice to hear what this all sounded like together though!

ALSO; during the verses, it appears that Crosby is using a "C" voicing for every "D" chord, slid up two frets. This would give an open 4th on the "G" string, and I'm wondering how this works here.

Roger almost appears to be playing an E7 during the verses, but that just may be his pinkie finger dangling; I don't hear it on the record anyway.

The odd part is this; "Byrds common sense" and "Sound" would indicate that those two parts should be reversed, with Crosby on the low part instead of the high, and Roger playing on the record what David is doing in the video.

This I can kind of see and "Hear" on the recording. Very interesting.

Maybe more folks will come forward with thoughts, info, etc.

Playing stuff differently live is commonplace of course, but not as much so in those mid '60's days. Interesting stuff.

Ok Guys; think I pretty much jumped the gun on this one. After repeated listenings with headphones, I've come to the conclusion that the octave strings on the 12 string are meshing with the high guitar figure, making me think the high part was a Ricky instead of David's Tennesean, and everything is indeed as it appears in this video, and nobody changed anything.

My bad.
