A plea for help with a fake trc!

Post by weemac »

Hi all!
I had the unfortunate experience of getting one of those trcs from that Italian seller and it turned to be a well made fake...
I opened a claim dispute with paypal who want me to prove that it is fake and my word doesn't seem to be good enough. Here is what they want:
"In order to continue with our investigation, we request documentation to
support your claim that the item is not authentic. Please obtain a document
from an unbiased, third-party, such as a dealer, appraiser, or another
individual or organisation that is qualified in the area of the item in
question (other than yourself), which clearly identifies the item as not
authentic. If possible, the document should include a serial number and
description of the item and must be on letterhead paper that includes the
name, address, and phone number of the individual, business, or
organisation so that PayPal may contact them if necessary. "

I can try to post some more pics of the offending piece of plastic tommorow if any needs to see it!

But I sort of need someone else to tell me and paypal what I already know! Can anyone help? If John Hall wants to chime in, he would be really welcome about now!
Many regards emac.

Contact RIC through their website and see what they say.

Well.... I contacted Rickenbacker through their website and I got the same reply as the other 4 or 5 times I have have emailed them..... Nothing!
It's in their interests to make these scam artists lose money but it seems that they will not help out the little guy.
It looks like the bad guy is going to win this one.........

Maybe Paul W could help you? he is fixing damaged TRCs and he is working with RICs on their acoustics...
I believe that an official letter from him would be enough for ebay.
So long and thanks for all the fish!

Try calling Rickenbacker. I'm sure they get thousands of emails a day. It's always better to talk to an actual person than rely on technology getting your message through.

I agree with Erik - sometimes e-mails don't get through due to spam filters, so try giving RIC a call. That being said, I'm not sure that they could do much for you. To authenticate that its a fake, you would probably need to send it to RIC. If it is a fake, RIC would probably want to keep it so that it would be destroyed, (as part of protecting their trademarks). So you may end up with verification that the TRC is a fake, but you may have to give up the TRC.

Eden, I got your email, and if you could send me some very large, detailed photos of your faker, I can help you out with a note pointing out the differences.

Once this all blows over. Depending if I have to send the **** trc back to the seller, I actually would happily send the fake one to Rickenbacker so they can study it! But it would be nice if they take pity on me and send me a real one that I can fit to my very real Rick 74 4001jg.. Instead of being at the mercy of Ebay and dodgy sellers..

When I called Kenny last fall about replacing my white on black broken tipped TRC, he looked around and reported back there were none to be had. So I don't think they exist anymore for RIC to do something like that.
