It's all part of the Rickenbacker Acquisition Syndrome, or RAS.

Re: Why so addictive?
I'm online quite a bit job hunting and doing band related things, so I pop over to the RRF quite a bit. It's definitely RAS, I must confess.
Besides, it's always a lot of fun to see what's up with the bunch, and people on the forum are usually quite witty.

And those are just the people who have allowed their online status to be seen...
This forum is very addictive to many. What makes it sustainable for me is the friendships I've made in a short three years. I'm sure many others will chime in with similar mushy sentiments.

+1. It's become less about guitars and more like just hanging out with friends (for me, anyway).jdogric12aolcom wrote: This forum is very addictive to many. I'm a college student (not for long!) who gigs for a living, so I have lots of time during the day to hang out on here.

Exactly. Some people — like me, for instance — don't want others to know how much time they spend reading the forum.jdogric12aolcom wrote:And those are just the people who have allowed their online status to be seen...
I cannot really say, i think for me it became a kind of a ritual, to check the forum every now and then when i'm online. I still find it hard to believe it's been almost five years since i've first found this place. Well, there must be something in here, fluids or whatever (or a built-in magnet for people). Of course, people are most important. Well, imho, of course.
Nothing will get you dead quicker than being deadly serious about yourself.

Re: Why so addictive?
My lovely wife doesn't totally understand why I'm addicted to the Forum. I do totally admit that when I was on vacation 4 years ago, I didn't have my laptop, so I drove around town for about an hour trying to find a public library so I could check my beloved Forum. Then all was right with the world...

For me,perhaps, it's my compulsive obsessive nature combined with mild paranoia, Adult ADD, RAS, and wanting to be a member of a like minded community.
these are just a few reasons that come to the squirell factory between my ears. However, mine does not have the backlog RICs does. I have been on medical leave since the beginning of the year, and have not been able to do much else. I am getting better and should be returning at the end of this month, so you probably will notice a drastic decrease of my activity on both sites.
I like the instruments, people, knowledge, and experience that this forum(and RICs most of the time)offer. I meet interesting folks who have taught me more about these instruments than two and a half decades of being in the biz,one way or the other, has. As I've said in one of my numerous long winded posts(no kidding mike)there certainly isn't this kind of information in books or videos.
I have also made a few friends here, and certainly hope to make more, as well as being exposed to many great artists and bands that I would otherwise have not been likely to meet. Also, I might add, that this forum, and the other one, have provided me,most of the time,to utilize my fondness of commas and/or run on sentences, which upon occasion, inspire me to include,(but certainly not just for the sake of inclusion), the use of paranthesis, which, I probably just misspellelted or........
