I ventured into Surf music (Song inside)

Post by tennis_nick »

I thought I'd give it a try.

Started with a simple progression + a small jazzy thing we used to play, and when I forgot what the chords in the bridge were, I borrowed from another chord structure.

Anyhow, drums are fake, bass is real, both guitars are real.

Does this even count as surf music? It's more of a surf/ballad

ARG! Soundclick cut me off!

Well, it finishes with an Fmaj7add9, and it's gorgeous, you'll just have to take my word for it!

I dig it, but the whole time I was just waiting for you to really kick it, know what I mean? A part where you really dig in and push that amp a little harder

Ah!!! Good point! I shall try to work something up to your liking! Thanks for listening! If I have time, I'll try to cook something up tomorrow or saturday!

Thanks again for listening!

I really do like all the notes you're hitting, but you gotta break it up a bit intensity-wise. It's kinda hard without a band and a real drummer to feel it, but it's worth a try. 8)

I just have a hard time on strats!!!

I can't really think of anything to play that feels intense, but still fits!

Well Nick, I think it has a nice feel for a love song, very nice. Late evening type of feel - you just get home after dropping her off and this is the mellow way you'd feel knowing you love her.

Not surf, but very sweet. My own standard for an innocent Sixties instrumental ballad is Carl Wilson's "Summer Means New Love" on the "Summer Days and Summer nights" album. Carl dials in just enough tongue-in-cheek janglepunch on his Jag to undermine the schmaltz and keep it from being too seriously saccharine.

Oh, BTW, "SMNL" is not surf, either.
