Diamond Knobs; Real or Re-issue?
Well I'm stumped....
I recently got some diamond knobs that were suposedly original.
The say "Rogan Bros. Chicago USA" on the bottom and have allen screws.
The knobs on my 61 say nothing and have flathead screws.....
Things are not so simple:
Libratune did an extensive study on his collection and found that there are indeed
several types of diamond knob used on the Capris.
In fact, they used both types of set screws, had several different marks and so on....
The question here is (black diamonds are excluded as they're specific to the early Vs):
How do you tell an original from a re-issue?

Re: Diamond Knobs; Real or Re-issue?
I have two Capris to refer to--my own '60 and a '58 that I'm restoring.
Both have identical--and original--knobs. These are smooth-backed (no "ROGAN" lettering). Each has a brass slotted-head set screw. There are four knock-out pin marks on the back, located 90° apart. There is a mold cavity mark engraved into the bottom of the shaft pocket.

I found a set of the black diamond knobs in an electronics store, and they have identical (or nearly identical) stampings on the bottoms as do the brown knobs on my December 1984 325v59.chefothefuture wrote:... black diamonds are excluded as they're specific to the early Vs ...
So what early Vs had black knobs?

I know Rogan made these knobs as in-stock items (and they still have the molds...) in Burgundy, Ivory, Brown, and Black.
I've never seen anything but brown on Rick guitars, though.

I think the early 325v59's had black knobs. I'm not sure when Rick was able to get brown.
Libratune has several Capri's and all have different markings.....
Still inconclusive results.....sigh.....
Looks like you'll need some airholes Paul...
At least , my latex mask had... ooh, I've said too much......

I'm OK for the time being...it just makes embarrassing noises when I exhale.
