I grew up playing my Dad's Ranger VI. It had pretty high action, was never overly loud, and my memory said it sounded ok. Years later (about 4 yrs ago), long after I learned to work on my own guitars, I ran across it again at his house. Shimmed the neck a bit (bolt on of course), adjusted the truss rod and bridge and the thing played beautifully. Still not very loud but good intonation and a decent warm sound. I only wished I had known how to work on it years ago, or at least had taken it to someone who did.

After reading the posts, there may have been some life left in the EKO Ranger 12. It had never been set up since it came off the wall in the Naples PX store, all I ever did was put new strings on it and carry it around from place to place. I think it sat in a closet for about 30 years in the case when I finally did sell it.....but I was a bit naive about guitars at the time, and I wasn't about to try unbolting the neck or trying to make any adjustments to the action. Anyway, it went to a good home.

Tom: A fantastic avatar.
Life, as with music, often requires one to let go of the melody and listen to the rhythm

I had an acoustic 12 with pickup when I was about 17 and it played great. My bandmate buddies used to fight over who would get to play it. Wonder whatever happened to that?

Thanks for jogging my memory. Many a Byrds song got played on that Eko.

Best,

T
