John Entwistle and Ric basses

Post by JakeK »

We know John Entwistle used a RM1999 in his early, early days of the Who, and picked up a 4005 MG during Tommy. I've got a list of songs which I *THINK* John used the two basses on:

RM1999:
I'm the Face
Here 'Tis
Zoot Suit
Leaving Here (High Numbers version)
I Can't Explain
Bald Headed Woman
Anyway, Anyhow, Anywhere
Daddy Rolling Stone

4005:
The Real Me
Amazing Journey
Go to the Mirror!
I'm Free
Tommy, Can You Hear Me?
Sensation
We Not Gonna Take It/See Me, Feel Me
The Seeker

I know he used the 4005 for a good deal on "Tommy", but those are the notable songs I could think of.

Anyone got anything they can contribute to this?

IIRC, "Tommy" is all Precision. I believe the only song he used a 4005 on was "The Seeker".

AFAIK, he used the 4005 for The Seeker only

Although the sound of his bass in the track is nailed pretty well in this video, I have always read that he used his PB during the Tommy sessions and appearing endorsing the 4005 in promos and in TV shows performing (playbacks) Tommy

I really wish he were around so we could ask him such questions.
Too bad he had to die before he got old. :(

Aint that the truth Thomas.... Paul, John and Chris are probably the biggest influences on me as far as bass playing goes... and are a major reason I tried playing Ric's... I really hope Chris continues what was started with the FOOW re-release... comments and rememberings.... too late for John - what a shame.

I can't find a pic of John's 4008, IIRC it was white with CB.
