Pickup cover removal

It's made of plastic not metal.

Ok..I'm an idiot. Or a guitarist with his first Rick Bass. When the pickup cover is removed, doesn't that leave you with a huge gaping cavity surrounding the pickup? What do you do about that?

It does leave some open space on either end of the pickup, but it's not terribly noticeable. It also give you a place to anchor your thumb, if (like me), that's where you prefer to pluck the strings. It would be nice if RIC made a surround kit for those that prefer the bridge pickup cover off, (I'm not holding my breath), but Pickguardian does make such a surround.

what I did when taking off the pickguard, in the past, I took a paper plate, drew the pickguard on the paper plate (no artist at all here, just a rough sketch) and then put the screws into the paper plate at the appprox places that they came from.

make a good "holder" and you dont lose any screws!

Joeys Bass Notes is a great site for information and how to do it advice. I easily removed the cover and got it all back together thanks to his experience and knowledge. Thank you Joey!

Now if Joey could just show me where the little button is that makes you play all the right notes instead of the wrong ones(found that button on my own thank you) I would be eternally gratefull. LOL!!

Pickguardian makes some cool stuff. I ordered a piece from them that I thought fit in the cavity around the pickup and attached to the adjustment screw, thus covering the hole and letting you keep the cool chrome surround on the bass. Well, I got a completely new surround, so one of these years I will have to modify it to fit the way I want it to. It's about number 256 on the list of things I have to do at the moment.

You got it, Mike! You don't install the button, you remove it. Then you transfer the contents into a nice mug, frosted if possible. Then cheers, down the hatch!
