To All,
Were the bridge pickup covers ever metal? I pulled mine out of the case the other day and was suprised to find it was molded plastic. It's been off for years and years (early 80's) when I bought my bass. I had always thought I remembered it was metal.... I guess not. This is a 4001
Cheers, Mike

Re: Plastic or Metal Pickup Cover
The original "bridge pickup cover" was actually a horseshoe pickup. The shoes were magnetized steel. Then Rickenbacker switched to the high gain pickup. The first few actually had metal covers. But pretty quickly we got the plastic ones.
Good news it is easier to melt the plastic ones.

Re: Plastic or Metal Pickup Cover
I think there was a short period of time when the cover was metal. There is at least one forum member that has or has had an old 4001 with a metal treble pickup cover.
JETGLO should officially be renamed JETGLO ROCKS!
