I switched to Markbass amps that are well known for letting the true sound of the bass come through plus added clarity to the tone and was really impressed, especially with how the B string sounded. The change between the amps was sort of like pulling cotton balls out of your ears and finally being able to hear what you've been missing.

+1 on the clarity difference with Markbass

I have recently switched to Markbass for my everyday rehearsal amp, and it has led me to change my basses' overall setups and pickup blends, which was a pretty seismic shift for me. It's much clearer on the high and low ends of the sound, and I have to agree with the magnitude of difference.

I'm not necessarily recommending Markbass for all bassists as much as I am agreeing with the idea of amp tone affecting so much of your sound....

If you can't afford a Markbass (like some of us), try a vintage Sunn 200 S for about one third the price. My '69 200S delivers a very "truthful" sound, clean 'n' clear.
