hi, camera broke, need pictures of peghead bushing-help?

Post by rokkitt »

Hi,

I have a 1988 JG/BT refinned to MG

Think I found my tuning problem

can anyone take a pic of the headstock with tuner and peghead bushing installed and all strung up?

a few close macro up close shots would help.....

my peghead bushings are plastic, and that doesn't seem right.....

thanks!

al

here is a better explanation......

this is the story

the peghead bushing lookss like a hard plastic and is flush with the headstock

wouldnt the peghead bushing be.......

metal

have a "grommett like" bump over the headstock surface, instead of being flush?

help....

if anyone can take a close photo of the headstock, right at the tuner to peghead bushing to headstock surface contact point, it would help

I think I am gonna need to get new peghead bushings....

do they sell them seperate?

thanks

I have no pics, but the bushings on my 1988 4003 BT Rick are indeed plastic. In 1988 the chrome hardware 4003's got the same metal bushings that are still used on the 4003 today. The BT Ricks (back then in '88 anyway) appear to me to have used the same black plastic bushings as RIC used in the late 70's on all the open-backed nickel-plated reverse tuners.

I know your tuners aren't the same as on this '79, but are your bushings the same? The bushings on my BT '88 4003 are.

I don't know about the BT variety, but the chrome ones look like this and I don't see any plastic there. What I do see is that I need to dust my headstock.

yah!

that is prolly the issue

see how the bushing comes up out of the hole, and then "spreads" like a grommet?

mine doesn't

it is inserted in the hole, and is cut "flush" with the headstock surface

( a pic is worth 1000 words, but camera problems!)

so, my peghead bushing grommets have been modified, ----just like the rest of the bass-- ahahahahha~!

hey at least I am learning what makes this thing tick! ----and I take stuff apart anyway, it was doomed from the start!---hehehhe

SO HERE IS THE QUESTION.....

Can I buy just the peghead bushings?

the originals?

or a working aftermarket?

or, do I have to buy the hipshot tuners? they are like 108usd on ebay for the black ones, and come with the bushings

------------I think this will fix my tuning problem, cuz the bushing is allowing the tuning peg to move. and, I can hear the bushings "squeak" sometimes when I tune......

--and next, the hipshot bridge!--- looks so cool

so, I am almost there!

any way to buy them ----those little black plastic bushin grommet like thingy's, like on rickaddict photos...seperate?---without buying the whole tuner assembly?

thanks!

A couple of the internet music parts retailers sell replacement tuner bushings for bass. I saw them last week while looking around for tuners, but I can't remember who had them. Not sure if any would fit.

I doubt you'll be able to find the black plastic ones new anywhere. Maybe try posting an ad in the Rick Wanted section of this forum. Somebody here might have a set lying around.

I think that Stew-Mac might have them ... let me check ... ACK! Only guitar bushings!

Nothing at Mojo ... or AllParts ... but, there are some black ones here:

http://www.guitarpartsresource.com/bass_tunerparts.htm

but I'd ask what the dimensions are before getting them.

Edit: looks like you found the same page that I did! I'm not sure what the dimensions mean, but it probably is the hole diameter, not the largest outside dimension.
