so my friend is offering to sell me his 650d for a pretty awesome price, and I had some questions about it.
I havent held it and played it yet and I was just curious what kind of sound I can expect from this guitar? he said it is pretty twangy and sounds great clean but didnt have alot when it comes to being distorted. but i have read that it gives off a pretty good thump when you want it. can anyone help me with this? I just want someone who owns one and plays it actively to give me the heads up on how this guitar rocks.
I already own a 4003 bass, and I love it so much. i really dont think there is any possible way I wouldnt like this guitar. it was between this or a gibson sg...so i dont know. please help!!!

The 650 does distortion quite well. The pickups won't be as hot as the SG, but the 650 can definitely do the SG sound. Plus you'll be getting a beautiful, unique guitar that will continue to go up in value.

When I had my 650D, the one thing that I liked most about it was the tone when distorted. It was the clearest sound I've ever gotten out of a pickup while distorted. Just thinking about it really makes me regret selling it. I'd pick it over an SG any day.

Thecodenator.....The walnut-on-maple hues are simply stunning. Humbuckers hold just the right amount of tone and resonance. I continue to be amazed at the quietness of these humbuckers. I detect not a dB of extraneous noise whatsoever! This is one versatile guitar, ringing out classic clean to crunchy gain tones to that dirty stuff called distortion. This will become a keeper for you, brah. Click on the thumbnail pics for larger resolution and the slideshow.

Play on, pick often, jam with any Rickenbacker, and prosper.

My 650S is the main guitar I use in my Classic Rock cover band.
Re: 650d questions...please help
Just posted questions about some PU issue with my 650 after taking out of mothballs. It's been a while since playing in a band with it (been paying my 4004 for a few years regulary), but I do recall a very good distortion tone.
Just now playing amplified for the first time in years, the clean tone is nice and bell like, with just enough RIck clank to be clearly a Rick. Kind of like the 4004 - which should not be surprising since they share the same pick ups from what I understand.
