Scott agreed - mine took as long as it takes to ship to my door step...
Jeff- Schweet!!!!
One thing fruther on the L vs. Cii... so the feel of the neck (thickness and all) - there isn't any real difference there?

Re: 4004Cii
My 4004CiiTR and 4004LMID have virtually the same neck, but my 4004CiiMG has a slightly thicker neck than both of them. Remember most 4004's predate the CNC machines and were still made using sanding drums and neck shapers, so there will be variances.
Re: 4004Cii
Now, if they could only make a 4004 with retractable frets...... that would be .... well.... cool...
Re: 4004Cii
Here's an excellent example of my point. All it took was a little digging.

Nice photos, Jeff. I am wondering how much of an adjustment it was for you when you added the 5th string. Does the fretboard have all the room you would like for five strings?
Life, as with music, often requires one to let go of the melody and listen to the rhythm

Re: 4004Cii
The 4004 neck is really nice for 5 strings. I use a stock carvin 5 string nut. I just wish the pickups were a little wider because I could use a wider bridge.
Getting used to playing 5 strings was hard work. I had to retrain my brain. Now 5 strings seems normal to me.
My 4004ci seems to be a better fingerstyle bass and my 4004L seems to be a better pick bass.

Re: 4004Cii
+1 on the 4004 neck for five strings. RIC missed an excellent opportunity to release a good five string and at the same time improve their four string sales of the 4004 if they would have shrunk the neck back to 4003 width for the fours and kept it the same for a five. My five string conversions are excellent finger style with string spacing of 16mm's, not great for slapping but it's doable. Players with medium sized hands would have snapped these up if RIC would have made them, not everybody wants 18-20 mm spacing as discussed recently on a thread at Talkbass.com

Re: 4004Cii
+1 on that! I've played most of Jeff's 4004 basses and they all are excellent 5-string basses. I would love to see one from the factory on the 4-string platform. It seems like it would be so easy to do and not impact production all that much, it is mainly a hardware swap. (bridge and extra tuner, different tuner holes, but still...)
Re: 4004Cii

Makes me glad I got my Laredo when I did, when they were only $1200 and change.
