New trend??? butchered 620!
Here is a nice 620 that was sold not so long ago for $1200:

The seller decided to sell it IN PIECES:

The rest of the guitar:

Why?!
I wonder what he did with all of the bits? Do you think he sold them all as parts on the `Bay?

If anyone wants to put a project 620 to stock, they can get all the parts they need from the same seller
........or, you could just buy one that's not dis-assembled. It looks like the seller does this with a lot of guitars. It'd make more sense if it was incomplete or had a broken neck or something.

It's a kit for "Do-it-Yourself" types.

Why, Why Why?

Re: New trend??? butchered 620!
Is anyone going to do the maths when these items have all sold. He's currently at $790.28; and that's with no bids on the case, and no parts reaching their likely full price yet.
I reckon he'll be well over $1,200, and that should answer everybody's question as to why he does this.
If he doesn't make it, then he deserves the punishment!
It's really a shame that the parts are worth more than the whole, though completely useless by themselves.

There's an ebay store that butchers Fenders as an ongoing business - the STRATosphere (their capitals). They mainly chop up MIJs but I've seen a number of MIAs as well. By my estimate they make a margin of around 40% by parting out. This business model makes more sense with a bolt-on neck design that is commoditised, but it's still alarming...

Yeah, it makes sense with strats because there's so many different companies producing parts for them, but for Rickenbackers it's different. I mean what choices do you have? Hi gains or toasters? Vintage tuners or Schallers? There's a lot fewer paths to go down. Unless you want to do the unthinkable of course (p-bass pickup in your 4003 perhaps?)

Re: New trend??? butchered 620!
Seems boneheaded to me (takes one to know one?)
Can this guy make 40% by busting up (nice) Ricks like that 620/12? Well, if he really paid $1200+ for it, I can't see how. Too many market factors involved in breaking up Ricks of recent vintage; mostly not enough demand for some parts (like the body), nearly zero demand for knobs, bridge, tuners, etc.
Now, if he'd found a complete Capri or '60s Rick for under a couple grand and done this, yeah, sure. Then I'd really be ticked-off, outraged, etc.

Not to say that this one is, but it sure would be an easy way to move a stolen instrument. With the serial# stamped into a plate, versus being carved into the back of a headstock, you could part these babies out and no one could prove diddly. It's not that difficult to change a stamped #, or make a fake for that matter. With the recent price increase and some BS story about how you got this from McCartneys 3rd cousins poolman Larry(who only played it once) it doesn't make sense to "part it out". It's just destroying a fine instrument that should have been shined up and sold properly, IMHO.
Re: New trend??? butchered 620!
After thinking about my last post, I in no way endorse or promote the selling and/or buying of stolen instruments or parts. I've had stuff stolen from me and it really sucks. Guitars, CDs, cars, money, and even a dog.
Re: New trend??? butchered 620!
People who steal dogs are really lowlife ********! That makes me sick.Im a great believer in what goes around comes around i believe that the person that sole your dog will lose lose something special in their life.Well i bloody hope so!Thats terrible Mike very sad indeed.whojamfan wrote:After thinking about my last post, I in no way endorse or promote the selling and/or buying of stolen instruments or parts. The body is perfect to do a Petty/Campbell 620/12C63 conversion!
