Wood and woody (is this a Jim Carrey movie?)...

None of my colors are from a standard color chart. They are all blended from a mixing color bank:
DSC00544.jpg
All are mixed by eye, or to a description of what the customer wants. Most custom jobs (exception: JG, MG and ambered MG) get a set of color chips on wood sprayed up, then sent to the customer for approval. That was the case with the Aquabass.

The Aquabass used four different transparent tints: A very pale aqua for the center of the burst for the top, back, and back of the neck. Then a darker, slightly greener aqua was shaded in. A dark, forest green was next, followed by a very deep cobalt blue which had no green in it. As I said, unique.

Do I keep these on file for touch-ups? Well, I do keep them on file, but touch-ups are virtually impossible with these subtle transparent dyes, layered as they are. I keep a pint or so of each, for use in case another customer wants a similar scheme on his/her guitar.

The front of this bass is either over the top or under the sea, depending upon your perspective. Yes, it is VERY special. I'm waiting for permission from the owner before I reveal the goods.

Jerry, your acoustic 6 is about to receive its first coats of sealer! If you don't mind, I'd like to do a photo essay on its most unique paint job.

Wow!!!

For me currently this is the most thrilling thread in the whole RRF!!!
Craftsmen arts at their perfection. Some day there might be a Paul W. museum?
Can RIC top such finishes? I doubt!

Fascinating.

That's an impressive rack of paint! What you do with it is far more so. :D

We determined that the original was too far gone to be saved, so I'm going to dig in and make a new one. This should be an interesting photo essay!
WOW, I hope my project sits in-front of this ambitious 4005 makeover, Paul! But can’t wait to see the 4005 results!

As always, fantastic work Paul 8)

BTW, Paul's now in Wikipedia, in the Rickenbacker entry, under the Rickenbacker Acoustic Guitars heading.
Thought y'all might like to know, if like me you didn't already, and say congrats.

Paul, are you at liberty to elaberate on the "Unique in all the world Artists edition bass"?

Sounds interesting! (beautiful also, by the way).
