In my opinion, the look of the Bass is fantastic, but I would substitute the TV knobs for Vintage ones.

There never were TV knobs on original 4000 series basses so they do look kind of odd. I too prefer the real vintage knobs, got them on all my Ricks.

Ok, I see the TV knobs, but I don't see the screen...

But if you had that bass, then you'd have sound but no picture, weird! It's the Outer Limits!

Usually I'm not a big fan of modifications, but this one is very nice. The pressure cooker knobs - in parallel - are a tasteful touch IMHO. The gold guard and TRC would look killer on a Jetglo S model.

I agree with Jeffrey, I'd go with the vintage knobs. The TV's look out of place

The Bass is sold.... Somebody from here ??? I would like to see more pictures if possible...
I really like the Moontezuma Brown finish and along with the gold pickguard. Looks great in amy opinion. Refreshing from the Jetglo / Fireglo /Mapleglo finishes we see all the time !!! Although they look great too, don`t get me wrong !!!!

I'm new here and thinking of adding a 4003 Blueboy to my small collection (4001V63FG, 91' 4003JG, 79' 4001 WHT, 360V64/12FG, 381V69/12FG).
Ilan, I have vintage knobs on my 4003 and I like it better. As for the pickguard - sounds nice but I'm very conservative about mods

Welcome marc, you shouldnt be so modest, thats a fine collection you have. A blueboy would fit in great.

Hey Marc, I knew you'd wind up here... welcome buddy!

What kind of vintage knobs? the 7-sided all-black type? Experimenting with different kinds of knobs is the most harmless mod; within less than a minute you can bring it back to stock if you don't like the result.

Still, if I was buying this bass I'd ask him to throw four "correct" knobs in the case.

And Scott and Steve - I've seen Marc perform with his band and you should hear the TONE he gets with those Rics!

Welcome aboard, Marc.
You have a nice Rick collection!Image

By the way, Marc and Ilan, do you have a RIC dealer in Israel? If yes, how are the prices of new Ricks compared to the US counterparts?

There was a RIC dealer in Tel Aviv, but I think he has stopped importing them several years ago. I guess the market was too small, prices were too high, and like anywhere else, most bass players just want a Fender. He will get you a Ric if you want, but carries none to try out. The same dealer also carried MusicMan basses, now there are only two 'Rays left in the store, and they are way overpriced. This is pretty much Fender land (and low-end Ibanez). Not many high-end basses around here, except for Tobias, which for some reason (unknown to me) are relatively popular here among some studio musicians.

Since the internet, I can get by without dealers if I have to.

Yeah praise the internet!
There's no RIC dealers in my country, and thanks to the net I was able to get my '98, '86, and '72 in the US and have my friends bring/import them back to me.Image
