Bert - I am continually amazed finding out how many of the songs or artists I liked over the decades used Rick instruments, especially basses.

Steve, I think it was posted here before and that's how I became aware of it. I check it every day or two to see what new info Russ posts. Interesting indeed. Glad you enjoyed - sorry about the 2 hour time loss!

(And now for something completely different (than Lemmy):)
I recently read that on records of Serge Gainsbourg there was also a Rickenbacker bass used and indeed: I really like most of his songs. Nice sixties bass in my humble opinion.

I must say I'm not 100 % sure this is a Rick though. This could have been done with another bass I guess.

My first time playing a Rickenbacker was when my lifelong friend and guitarist got a 350 really cheap back around 1996ish. I loved that guitar, great balance, tone and playability. Years later he hawked the guitar when he needed some extra money in Seattle for I think $350. When I found out I wanted to kill him.

I remember thumbing through a Musicians Friend catalog back in 99 and first seeing the 650 Dakota. Was one of the most stunning guitar designs I had ever seen with the neck through rock maple and walnut sides.

I typically don't purchase new guitars, but that was one I shelled out for in I think June of 2000 from Music 123. Took about 8-10 weeks to get, but I remember holding it for the first time and falling in love.

I love American made guitars that show the devotion they put into the instrument. My "main" guitar is a Martin 000C-16GTE, another American made beauty. And I will probably never part with either my Ric or my Martin.

Here's to Rics!

What I understand it is indeed a nice tool to emulate a kind of a Rick sound.

The RPM is way better a preamp than the RBI. Like night and day. Sounds great with any bass.

Ged
Glenn Hughes
Roger Glover
And a very underated bassist, IMO, Paul Goddard of the Atlanta Rhythm Section. Beauuuutiful Rickenbacker tone on songs such as "Imaginary Lover" and their cover of "Spooky"

For me it was whitout doubt Steve Priest the Bassplayer in the British Glam/Hard Rock Band The Sweet...I remember listening to Turn It Down/Fox on the run etc as a youngster....magic RIC basssound there...I still think one of the greatest albums soundwise is Desolation Bolueward whit The Sweet...His Rick 4001 Burgundy through a Hi Watt Tube Head...Magic... :D
In fact my first RICbass was a second hand 4001 Burgundy...man was I happy then..
Later on whit the punk/new wawe movement and thats when I started to play in bands myself...one big influence both sound and because he played so great was Bruce Foxton from The Jam....great basslines so to speak.
Cool band also The Jam whit tons of style and attitude IMO.
Best Dan.

Roger Glover. The first time I heard Smoke On The Water. When the bass came in I said Whoa! I gotta get one of those!
Then later Chris Squire was the BIG influence.
