Yes tour IS cancelled

Post by 2112 »

News at Yesfans is that the 2008 40th anniversary tour has been cancelled.
No update at Yesworld as of yet.

Let's all wish Jon Anderson all of the best. His health comes FIRST.

Tom, what is your source for this information? I've been to YesWorld, NFTE, Steve and Chris's sites and cannot find this update. I do, however, have a suspicion that it is correct, since Jon's health issues arose, I've been sort of expecting something. But I want to be sure before posting anything more....

And, yes, let's all hope that Jon is doing well.

The only news I can find about the tour being canceled is on YESFANS, where I am not a member... I find it to be a difficult site to navigate on, with so much **** onscreen, it is hard for me to read actual content. Everyone there seems to be discussing the cancellation of the tour due to Jon's asthma condition, but no one has actually stated that the tour is cancelled or has linked to any official announcement, etc... Right now, as far as I can determine, that announcement has not been made officially on any website. So, anyone with any linkable source information, please chime in, as a lot of us are making long distance travel arrangements for the shows. Please post all verifiable information and please do not circulate rumors.

Legendary rock band YES announced today that the group will unfortunately be canceling their 2008 40th Anniversary Tour. The 26-city tour was scheduled to kick off in Quebec next month and run through the summer.

YES frontman and founding member Jon Anderson was admitted to the hospital last month after suffering a severe asthma attack. He has now been diagnosed with acute respiratory failure and was told by doctors this weekend that he needs to rest and not work for a period of at least six months or suffer further health complications. Upon receiving this news the band has determined that their tour plans need to be put on hold.

Ticket refunds will be available at the point of purchase.

Said Jon Anderson, "In the wake of my recent respiratory attack, doctors have advised me to spend the coming months resting and recovering. Unfortunately, this means I won't be able to tour with YES this summer as originally planned. I'd like everyone know how deeply disappointed I am by this turn of events. I was looking forward to celebrating our music with the amazing family of YES fans once again; but as we all know, health must come before anything else. Wishing you all the very best..."

Said Chris Squire, "We were all looking forward to performing for our fans after a prolonged leave of absence from touring. I am especially regretful of the fact that I know many of our fans and friends have probably laid out non-refundable airfares and hotels, etc. in order to enjoy the YES shows this summer. Please join me in wishing Jon a speedy return to health, which at this point in time is our main concern."

I'd say that seals it. Best wishes for Jon's recovery.

That sounds really serious. Here's wishing Jon a speedy recovery back to sufficient health to allow him to resume his life and his brilliant carreer.

I did not mean to circulate a rumor. It was more than a rumor from the source on that fan site. It was from Chris' better half who had posted it there as a 'heads-up' for all the Yesfans. I figured that was a good enough source. I wouldn't have posted this news if it was just a run of the mill rumor.
Sorry for any confusion.

Sorry, Thomas, I didn't mean to make it sound like you were circulating a rumor... I was fairly certain that you had heard something credible, otherwise, you wouldn't have started the thread. Deep down, I was hoping that it wasn't true. My "rumor" reference was an attempt to stop anything like what I was reading on another site, where there was a ton of speculation that seemed to be taking on a life of it's own - I wanted straight info, as the official band sites were saying nothing about it.

Unfortunately, it does seem to be true. I'm happy that I didn't book my hotel in Hershey yet, sad that Jon is ill, angry because some ticket thieves will still make a buck off of this due to all the non-refundable charges and frustrated because it's just been too long since I've seen them live - very disappointing :(

So, what now??? I watched "Live at Montreux" the other night and was going to start a thread about how much I liked that DVD because they performed "Fragile" almost in it's entirety. I actually had sent Chris an email this morning (not that I'm sure he's getting them anymore) asking him to consider posting here again about the tour and wishing them all the best for the tour. Hey, he's probably more disappointed that any of us. Besides lost income, I think he lives for the stage. In the last videos, he is still clearly up to the task of live performance.

So, any information, please post, the sooner the better. Perhaps it will just be delayed for a while...

A sad day indeed.

I do hope John has a speedy recovery.

I purchased 4 tickets (my entire family was going to the show) and a night at the Hard Rock Hotel in Miami. I've seen YES about 6 times over the years but my kids were never old enough to appreciate the experience. We've been talking about going to a YES show for years. The kids are really disappointed but I promised them, when YES reschedules, I'll do my best to get tickets again.

Our prayers go out to the entire band, hopefully this is only a bump and everyone will be enjoying YES music again soon, the band and the fans!

Hey Jim, I've no luck whatsoever trying to locate "Live at Montreux", I bought it THREE TIMES, only to get the HD version! EVEN when the ad said "STANDARD", I got the HD version! Where the heck did you find it? Also, I really appreciate the way you handled the threads. I'm a member of Yesfans and have a difficult time finding my way around there myself. It is a GREAT site with LOTS of information, I just wish the format was a bit more friendly.

Thomas, THANK YOU for the heads up, I read your post last night but was HOPING they might only cancel PART of the tour, but it wasn't meant to be.

Yeah, I'm really devastated in a way, but I'm more concerned with Jon's health. To be in the hospital for a week with a severe asthma attack and now to hear that he has accute respiaratory failure is really scary folks. He is 63 years old and at that age, let's be real here, it's not too cool. His health comes first, and I'm sure that when he is well, Yes will tour. Maybe the new material will be worked on and perhaps a new album will surface. Let's all just hope for the best.
I've tried to keep us all up to date on the happenings of Yes. I just didn't want to have to report this.

Bag the tour today - live and play another day....

Sucks them not coming around but Jon's health is the most important thing. Wishing Jon a speedy and complete recovery!

I have "Live at Montreux" the performance is great, but I was disappointed with how little they showed Squire.

I wish Jon Anderson a full and speedy recovery. Hopefully ready for a 41st anniversary summer tour.

I agree, Joey, the camera takes too long to find him in the first half... But!...When Heart of the sunrise, LDR and "The Fish" are performed, Chris shines! Plus, "Don't kill the whale"! Why did it take Yes so long to get HOTS and Fish on a live video? If Steve had performed "Mood for a day" at that show, it would have been an almost complete FRAGILE performance, since the "Six Wives" solo that Wakeman performs is what he indended to go on the record, but his contract with A&M prohibited him from putting solo material on a Yes album. (Or so I've read) "Cans and Brahms" was the compromise.

There is even one short scene during LDR that you get a glimpse of some positive on-stage interaction between Steve and Chris, where Steve appears to be asking Chris to play something on the Ric that Steve must have thought sounded cool - and Chris obliges!

Tony, find the NTSC standard version of this and watch it completely. It may help to sooth the disappointment of the recent news (or just make you want to see them all the more!).
