The end of hockey season always saddens me.

I was pulling for the Pens (having lived in Pittsburgh for 7 years), but watching the Wings play was really a treat. Never out of position, forwards who back-check hard, incredible puck movement and possession, good goaltending....can't help but admire and love it...it was fun to watch. Zetterberg is the new poster boy for stars that are committed to a team system...replacing Steve Yzerman (IMHO).

I am grateful for living in a border town as we have the opportunity to watch hockey on the CBC's "Hockey Night in Canada". A place where center ice is still called center ice and Detroit is called Dee-troy-it. They have the best commentary all through the game and Coach's Corner with Don Cherry to top things off. My hat's off to our friends to the north for the best hockey coverage on the planet!

Ohhhh I miss CBC. I used to get the NHL Center Ice package through my cable provider but with a 16 month old baby, I can't justify (or stay awake for!) that much hockey anymore.

I wanted to see the Pens win, but the Wings deserved it. It ended up being a good series I thought.

Of course, I'm a Leafs fan (stuck in Thrashers country) so it's gonna be ANOTHER long year for us.



Now begins the "slow season". Baseball....yawn.

+1. They had a freaking great team this year. Gotta give major credit to Osgood too - the guy steps in for Hasek at the beginning of the playoffs and plays great.

I agree John. Osgood is finally getting the recognition he deserves. The Pens were great this year thanks to their abundance of talent at all positions, it's pretty hard to beat the Wings skill and experience though in a series like this. In retrospect it was a great run by both teams and the last two games in particular were perhaps two of the best in the Stanley Cup finals I have seen in a while.

The way I saw it the goals scored by the Pens on Osgood were the result of good hard work and determination by skilled hockey players. Both goalies were superb for the most part. There was the odd gaffe but they each made some spectacular saves that more than made up for goals allowed.

+1 I thought Osgood was better at the beginning of the series, but still played very solidly overall. Coming in for Hasek and never making a big deal out of it, just putting on the pads and playing without a lot of drama was first class...and very different from the behavior of professional athletes in many other sports. Hockey Rocks!

The Cup final was a great thing to see, at least this year it was competitive, but I loved watching the Wings win the cup.
I would have enjoyed it A LOT MORE if it didn't come down to the last .05 second, you know, a 4-1 lead with 4 minutes to go so you can revel in the feeling, but hey, a win is a win is a win.
The Wings should only get better by shedding Hasek and bringing up Jimmy Howard to back up Osgood. They have a good core of young d-men too. It's looking good here in Hockeytown.
