If I spent that kind of money for a 5 string bass and it turned out to be a 3 string bass I would have a lot to say!
Lower the letter size, Jeff. And don't come at me like I'm foolish for not complaining on a forum

First of all, because I'm not a bonehead that would complain about it on a forum. You've had more than enough to say about it and you don't even have one. I did my inquiring about resolving the problem with RIC privately, as should be.
Second, I was offered a FULL money back refund including shipping BOTH WAYS!! So I have no right to complain about something I decided to keep despite the issue.
Third, you have selective reading, Jeff. You don't seem to read to posts where I've said the trans red is perfectly fine, I've gigged with it and I've recorded with it. I believe Erik has said the same about not having a problem with his fireglo. You act like you are the only 5 string player on the forum and the only one who knows anything about them.
Oh, and from all the people who were hoping to get a Cii/5, before you let your loose fingers fly with all your dumb@$$ comments about them, THANKS!

An intelligent person who understands. Thank you , John. :D I love those basses, I'd buy another one!

First of all it is a free country so I can use whatever letter size I like.

If you like your bass fine. I have tested, retested, and retested those pickups again and again. They do not work properly with a 2 3/4" spacing! You seem to be OK with that. I would not be.

You imply that I am bonehead and a dumb *** ... I never accused you or anyone else of that here on this forum.

As per me buying a flawed 4004cii5 ... not gonna happen ... mainly because Ric won't sell any now and who knows when they will. They seem to make enough off of the existing product line.

Your wording and letter size was insulting. Should I have said nothing? I don't think so.

We should really try to keep from arguing ... it is not good for the forum.

I have certain strong opinions and I respect your right to disagree with them.

But I think pretty much everyone involved would agree the pickups on the cii5 need to be wider.

If I did have one of those basses I would put in a East preamp like this one ... http://www.bassdirect.co.uk/bass_guitar ... Retro.html ... with some nice wide pickups it would really be an extreemly nice bass.

You came at me first. You wouldn't sit idle if someone directed those comments at you and you know it.
It wouldn't have been the first time you've insulted someone. Hmm, like just last weekend,
But I won't get into a forum argument. It won't look pretty. You can say what you want. you'll be on my ignore list from now on.
So anything said from this point on, is on you.

I apologize to anyone else who may have found what I've said offensive.

I think it's kinda like yelling fire in a theater, or bomb in an airport. Complaining about RIC products here just goes straight to the source, and in the case of the 4004Cii5's, caused JH to just make sure the dealers offered a refund and move onto other projects. Like it or not, JH is just as free to do what he wants with RIC as we are to complain about it. I personally think it's better to be polite and keep my ears open...most of the time..

I consider Joey to be a good friend of mine even though we’ve yet to have the time to share a glass of Chianti.

I consider Jeff to be passionate about all things 5 strings.

Unfortunately, sometimes our passion leads to over zealousness which comes off like personal attacks. This happened to me a number of years ago here on this forum when I feel Jeff portrayed me to be a lesser musician because I was not gigging due to my professional and personal schedules. At that time I decided to move on and posted much less here.

When one creates such a front, be prepared for the front to be attacked…

Scott, I'm not saying anything else. I have Jeff's posts blocked, so I can't read what he posted. Although I'm tempted to display the post. I really don't want to see it in case I might have to come back with something. It's over as far as I'm concerned.

Thanks Andy, I consider you a good friend also. Someday will get together for that Chianti! :D

Sorry Andy ... I have strong opinions. I tend to like to shake things up. If the emperor has no clothes I will be the first one yelling at the top of my voice "That dude is naked! Put something on you are grossing us out!"

I never intended to make anyone feel like they were less of a musician. I am not gigging currently. The band I am in isn't gigging. We all have demanding jobs and we make enough money at work that the few bucks we get from playing dive bars isn't appealing. But I do believe that if you have a really nice bass then play it. It is a real shame to have nice instruments not get played.

Unfortunately I think Joey is mad about a previous incident where I sold a bass and he didn't get the shot at it that he wanted. I really have no animosity towards him.

I think part of the problem is email and internet. My style of posting can be interpreted different than my real personality. In person I am quite easy to get along with and my opinions don't come accross bombastic.

When it comes to 5 string basses I am very picky. I don't like the 5 string basses that came from the Rickenbacker factory. Also I don't like what Fender or Gibson make for the most part either. That is why I build my own basses and customize existing basses.
