Ode to the man name of Squire
Whose playing in me caused desire
To pick up the bass of four wire
And to play like this man I aspire
His playing nothing short of amazing
Of his bass I cannot stop gazing
To play like him strings a phasing (a....blazing)
Sound booming from the amp like Hell blazing (Hell....raising)
The bass made of guitar Rickenbacker
A beauty of cream color lacquer
Mr. Hall and his crew sure no slackers
Fixed with parts hunted for by his trackers
His form and style quite unique
To watch and ponder his technique
Try and try but fingers get weak
Hopes to play like him outlook bleak (him....this I seek)
His impact on life was so grand
Now I play in a Christian type band
You need only to HOLD OUT YOUR HAND
And pick those wires of metal strand
While more practice and time I require
To do justice this man I admire
And play my bass like a Lyre
Damn, my hands again they perspire! (This truly is what I aspire)
So in closing this Ode to his Sire
Truth be told a few laughs my desire
My hopes not to evoke his Ire'
All this in homage to Mr. Chris Squire"

Miguel! Very nice to see you as a member here. I enjoy your recordings of Chris Squire's bass parts and look forward to more. They are a valuable teaching tool. When I first heard your "Heart of the sunrise" and "Tempus Fugit" I thought I was hearing Chris solo'd at the console! Well Done!miguelbass wrote:That's a beautiful homage no doubt! I can relate a lot to those words!
congratulations!
I'm new here, have a lot to catch up, meanwhile here is my little set of Chris Squire bass covers. http://www.youtube.com/miguelbass
Miguel
I tried to email you through your website a year ago, but I have comcast, so they don't always go through. I was asking if a CTTE solo mp3 was in your plans for the future. I've been working on that one (guitar and bass) for about a year now.
If you haven't already, please check out the "Chris Squire and Yes" forum on the main index and visit / post often. We welcome your input.
Peter, should this thread now be moved to the CS & Yes topic?

Sorry, I don't share THOSE meds!
But, every word true. The coolest thing was that I sent this on to the man himself and he responded, "Cool, I really liked your Ode to me! I printed it up and hung it up in my office".
Hey, I couldn't ask for a higher complement than THAT!
Thanks Miguel!miguelbass wrote:That's a beautiful homage no doubt! I can relate a lot to those words!

Welcome to the forum!
I've been a fan of your CS works for a long time. SOMEHOW, I can't remember where I managed to get them from, but I have a whole bunch of them downloaded to my Ipod, they REALLY help me get those almost impossible lines down. You play beautifully!
Are you going to transcribe any of them, that would be TOO COOL!
Glad you found your way here, I couldn't think of another RIC & CS fan I'd rather have with us!

Re: Ode to Chris Squire
Hello Tony and Jim, and hello everyone.
Thank you for the most warm welcome. I was suggested to register her by a fellow portuguese member on this forum, but I really had no idea that this board was so rich on information regarding Chris Squire. I have been reading the 11 pages of the "Squire's other basses" thread and ... it's an overdose of so much valuable information from you guys... it will take years to catch up with this sub-forum only! This is the greatest place to be - that I already know.
So... about what I am doing now. I am not a professional musician. I re-started again the basslines in video format, this time, after some months ago, a friend of mine encouraged me to make something for YouTube, where already many people started to make their own video covers of Chris's bass work (and Yes in general).
I am not making transcriptions now by a matter of free time, although I want to make them sometime. Some years back I did make some transcriptions that used to be part of Chris' former official site. I also played the mp3s there.
I just tried to find if that page was still online but it seems not... If you are interested I will gladly post them.
Then i was asked to participate in a very interesting project, i contributed with my bassline of Siberian Khatru to build a full Yes cover with more musicians online. The result was pleasantly surprising and you can listen to it here http://caryindy.com/music.htm
The other "official" transcriptions and mp3 were Tempus Fugit, In the Presence of and Heart of The Sunrise.
The old mp3 (the first I ever made long time ago) are still available at http://www.johngoodall.com/miguel
There you can see some pics of my 4001CS too
My goal for the next months would be to make a bass cover for each Yes album, so I will cover CttE for sure! Maybe starting with SK, as that one I can recall faster and do the recording. Right now I am "visiting" the 1st album and preparing to pick a tune from there....
So...I'll keep you posted as soon as I have something new. I'll continue reading this "south side of the forum" for now
And if you need anything else from me just ask. I'll try to keep connected as much as I can.
Big "Thank You" everyone!
M
P.S. sorry if this is going out of the Ode topic, maybe i will start a new thread , or the moderators move it... (newbie here).

Re: Ode to Chris Squire
Welcome Miguel, and congrats on all you work with Chris and Yes music. Back when the transcripts and mp3s were on the net I saved copies of them. Great work.

THREAD REVIVAL!
"Tis the season, the boys are touring again....and it took me like 20 minutes to find this post again!
WHO IS GOING TO ATTEND one of the shows?
I was listening to the SWISS CHOIR today on my Ipod, what a great piece of work.
Can't wait for the December show here in FLA!
I wonder if he will work in a Christmas song!?!?!?!
