Price for 1968 Ric 4001 with some issues...?

Three basses within 13 numbers. That's pretty cool, considering the low volume produced for this period, and the potential survival rate of these basses.

Andy, wouldn't that be more probable on a low production year than a high production year? Any models that turned up would, by low production amounts, be close in serial numbers. So it seems to me.

All the pots ARE dated to 68. I don't have pictures of the dates, but I checked them out, and they're legit. The only electronics changed are the leads from the bridge pickup. The previous owner had a jazz bass pickup in the bridge (idiot....why....) but obviously kept the original, and that's back in it now.

As for the talk of buying a newer Ric... I have a 100% original 1973 /w toaster, grover wavy tuners, clear truss cover, and checkerboard binding that is in SUPERB condition... so I kinda have that covered already.... the '68 would be more of a collector's piece.

That is, of course, right John. Actually my math was wrong there as the bass that mentioned was 13 from mine, not the one for sale. There are some pretty high serial numbers in the 68 year, and not too many basses, and that's what caught my original train of thought.

That was my though, Andy - with a smaller pool to draw from, chances were good instruments turning up would be close in numbers. Oh, and I did know you meant the other bass.

Edmonton. It' belongs to a good friend of mine, and he's just lookin to get rid of it, he came up with the price, and all I had to do was agree to it.

Needless to say... I'm pretty happy with it at that price.

hi an idea for sorting crack/ joint on the back of the ric use a quality non expansive glue and use a compressed air gun and blast the glue into the joint it should get the glue to where it needs to be regards staffy

Perhaps one should mask off the rest of the bass, and dropcloth the room as well?

Enjoy the bass. I'd really like a review. Every '68 bass I've ever played has been an unusual gem. By some generous twist of fate, I've been able to play quite a few. Kinda like the 59 FT Les Paul of the bass world.
