The name is Vincent Gallo thank you not Vince. in any case the 4008 i got from Chris did not have the neck broken off but instead suffered a crack behind the nut. It is a cool as sh*t bass. The day i got to own it was the most shocking day of my life

Hi Vincent,

I was looking for some information last year about Chris Squire's fretless Guild bass, the one he talks about using on side two of TFTO. I believe that you are the current owner? No pics necessary, but do you have model number and finish information?
I'm also a big fan of Guild basses as well as Rics.

i don't recall ever seeing a picture of chris playing his guild,is it by chance a b-301 or b-302? those are very nice set-neck basses, somewhat of a sleeper, but i think they are in the process of being rediscovered. also, side 2 of TFTO is one of my favorite extended-piece yessongs......

Woody, I've got the B302, had it since 1986 - It has a great "Ric tone". Mine is all black, but may be returned to a natural mahogany, like in the attached pic from a recent auction. Every bassist that has played it made me an offer, but I'm keeping it in the fold. They do turn up on ebay and Gbase from time to time, nice examples are around $900.00 and worth it! There are many fretless versions of this bass and I'm curiuos to know if Squire's is one of them, but he may have had an earlier model. Somewhere, I read that Vincent Gallo is the owner, so, if true and you have any info... :D I'll still buy your book when it's finished!

nice looking bass,i'm not sure i wouldn't keep the black color -that probably looks really good on this bass. #1 on buying the proposed gallo book-bring it on!

Squire's fretless Guild is a model JSII. I have a picture on my home computer of him playing it on a stand, presumably before he got the triple neck Wal.

I like those B-302 basses. They always reminded me of Rics. I'm kind of a Guild fan myself with a '73 JSII, and a late 80s 5 string Pilot with a beautiful figured maple body.

Here's that Squire pic, as well as a shot of my JSII for reference.

Funny thing is, I bought the Guild on a whim 2 or 3 years ago, only to find out later that Squire had one. :D

tom-is that jsii a full scale (34") neck? very nice,by the way, presumably mahoganey body/neck rosewood fretboard? i do recall that chris played his on a stand at the TFTO tour, but he was insect-sized from where i was sitting, and i couldn't make out any details about guitars....plus there was a bit o' smoke in the air......

Tom, great pic! That is the first time I've seen Chris with that bass, except for the TFTO tour.

The JSII is a short 30 1/2'' scale. They eventually made a long scale. As far as I can tell, the neck, pickups, and electronics are the same as the Starfire and M-85 basses. Just the bodies differ. There was also a stereo version of the JSII, and one with a carved top ala the 4004LK.
