I don't think so. My Jetglo 4001 has natural spots in the same location as your bass.

Besides the wood shavings still in the truss rod cavity. I don't think it is a refin either.

Thanks guys, you're right it's not a refin. I was looking @ Joeys FL photo's taken apart and the paint is the same way. It's a great bass with a nice thin, fast neck. I'm lucky to have it!

It's an AWESOME bass!! Real thin neck almost like a J_zz Bass! Man! I didn't think she would kiss and tell! She's purdy undressed!! :mrgreen:

Can you tell whether the binding is white or painted over?

I don't beleive its painted over, the binding is the same aged white as the bass. There is a difference where the binding stops and the body begins.

I saw a fretted 4003 white at Classic Axe a few years ago that was uniform banana-meat color, body and binding. Shows that it's the clear coat that yellows.

I have an '81 4001JG that either has black binding or the binding has been painted over. The varnish is so yellowed I can't tell!

I agree that yours definitely looks like unpainted white binding though, Sam.

very nice lookin bass,there! i like the buttercream color with the white pickguard,too. my 74 4000 is somewhat similar,but with black pg/trc.
