How are geeks supposed to learn??
There was a quote from Lorne Michaels when he was planning SNL that there would be no closeups of guitars during solos as he said he wasn't "giving guitar lessons." I suspect that this is something that has always been an unspoken rule, perhaps even negotiated as a part of artists' appearances on the shows of the '50's, '60's and on up. If a band was to perform their hit, garage bands would be watching, cop the chords, but not have the solo. It preserves the song's integrity with the hitmaking artist.

By the way, for you younger Forum members, the Beatles NME film was made before the invention of the guitar stand , as we now know it...

Tome, he fact that the camera person goes straight to George on John's solo during "Long Tall Sally" means someone said "That's the lead guitarist, show him!" It doesn't explain why they stayed on Paul for the first half of George's solo. Anyone else notice that George uses the same lick he uses on the "Kansas City/Hey Hey Hey" solo?

LTS is my favorite cover tune by the Beatles. Paul just kills! What energy-- look at Ringo on the final chorus. Can you imagine what they sounded like in the clubs?
