Rickebackers in Chicago

Hi, I'm going to Chicago in a couple of weeks, and wonder if there's any guitar shops worth checking out. Preferable with rickenbackers

There is a post on the RIC corporate site in the "guitars" section titled "Beginning player". The guy who started this thread lives in Chicago, and apparantly has a Rick dealer near him that is well stocked. Try contacting him to see what store he is talking about.

Many Forumites have been avoiding Chicago Music Exchange due to several questionable deals.

Survived three winters in the Windy City back in the 80's. Great town with some wonderful guitar shops. The 'burbs have some cool shops, too. One to avoid, however, seems to be CME at 3316 N. Lincoln Ave. in the city. They've encountered their fair share of bad press from Ric aficionados in the recent past. From what I've read, it is deserved. Don't want to unduly make this a negative post so I'll leave it up to you to decide. Just my dos centavos' worth. Play on, pick often, jam with Toast(ers)®, and prosper.....Goofyfoot.

CME would definitely have a lot of cool vintage Rickenbackers to gawk at if you're just visiting, but take Goofyfoot's advice and don't buy one. (And JAM WITH TOAST(ERS))

Rock and Roll Vintage, also on Lincoln but about 12 blocks further north, usually has a couple of Ricks in stock. Their website is pretty well updated, so you can check to make sure they have something worth seeing. Last I looked they had a 1963 shoreline gold p-bass that looked cool enough that I'm afraid to go check it out in person. And a couple Ricks.

You could go to the Guitar Center on Halsted and see if you get lucky like Jeff T did a while back, spotting a (July?) '73 on the wall for cheap. I've never seen a Rick in there though.

CME's showroom is definitely worth seeing.

There's a bunch of music stores around, but CME and Rock and Roll Vintage are the only ones that seem to consistently have Ricks. Oddly enough, I've never actually bought a bass in a music store, so I can't offer any advice there.

Guitar Works in Evanston (the first suburb north of Chicago) is a Rick dealer but I don't know if they have any physically in stock.

I was in Chicago a couple of weekends ago, but I didn't bring my Rickenbackers-I went with the Gretsches-smaller body, smaller case for carrying on.
