i'd like to see a 'contemporary' take on the blackstar or shadow using a trans black...w/ walnut wings.rickenbrother wrote:Looks like a relection to me also.phlemmy wrote:i'd like to see them all come with that wood grain bleedthrough.
a JG like that would make me wet.
A trans black finsh would look great on Ricks, especially the 4004 basses.

ricosound wrote:I'm standing firm. You can see the neck plank to wing joint, and the maple grain pattern of the wings. Also look at the neck. If it was a reflection, it would follow the body contours. I'd love to buy it just to take a chance I'm right. This would be kind of a cool odd-ball if the back is trans blue and the front is solid. The only difference is no silver mettalic basecoat under the blue. Do you ever wonder if RIC releases experimental stuff like this to keep it interesting? How many of the grayglos went out, probably amounting to one production run?
I concur that it's woodgrain showing through. If it's a reflection, it's perfectly lined-up wth where the joints would be on the bass, and the grain as it goes around the body-to-side radius. It's really confusing...
Re: Question about Midnight Blue
Looks like woodgrain to me. I can't believe no one commented on the MASSIVE binding bleeding.
Re: Question about Midnight Blue
Ben, I don't know if you hired new shooters or if Eric has them whipped into shape or both, but the instruments coming out of the factory of late, especially the bursts, are just beautifully done. Kudos to all.

I saw a brand new 330 fireglo this past Friday at my favorite west coast Rick dealer. The new bursts look great with the gradual blend into the center. Excellent job, Eric!johnallg wrote:Ben, I don't know if you hired new shooters or if Eric has them whipped into shape or both, but the instruments coming out of the factory of late, especially the bursts, are just beautifully done. Joey, you’ve been dreaming about that for quite some time IIRC

Dreaming of one day owning a Fender bass is like dreaming of one day driving a Chevrolet Impala.

I can see the craigslist ad:johnallg wrote:Ben, I don't know if you hired new shooters or if Eric has them whipped into shape or both, but the instruments coming out of the factory of late, especially the bursts, are just beautifully done. Kudos to all.
"SHOOTERS wanted. Or, we will WHIP YOU INTO SHAPE. Apply, etc..."
Yep, typical craigslist ad...
Re: Question about Midnight Blue
I'm equally adept with firearms as well as bullwhips, so shooting or whipping makes no difference to me.
Wait...Are we talking painting here?

Re: Question about Midnight Blue
That MID looks really pretty with the woodgrain shining through!
Trans Black is a fantastic idea. Can't wait to get a look at that!

Re: Question about Midnight Blue
My 2003 Midnight Blue 4003 doesn't show the woodgrain (or have binding issues). Sorry if that's old info, just trying to contribute another data point for the graph. From that photo, it does look amazingly like woodgrain.
I've seen slight bodyside-centerwood joint lines on the back of solid colors before, if you tilt them just right against the light (both of my jetglo's), but never woodgrain. Interesting....

Same on my mid blue, you can see where the body wings join the neck.dean712 wrote:I've seen slight bodyside-centerwood joint lines on the back of solid colors before, if you tilt them just right against the light (both of my jetglo's), but never woodgrain. Interesting....
