So does it qualify as "None More Black" if I swap out all the hardware, pick guard, and knobs of my 4003JG and still have the white binding, or will it only rise to the level of "Not Too Many More Black"? I do have the get my terminology straight here.

It's not none more black unless it comes from the factory that way. even a JG with chrome hardware but factory black pg and trc is none more black.

What difference does it make if it's factory installed or not? Bizarre way of defining what color something is.

I've never much cared for blacked out Rics with white binding. I think Paul Boyer trimmed the edge of his TRC and black pickguard (TRC for sure....pickguard I believe) with white paint and that made all of the difference.....it blended with the binding nicely. Just a thought.

I'm ordering a pickguard (I hope it can be done...it's one of the materials listed on the Pickguardian pages) in the black/white/black sandwich. Maybe that will give just a pinstripe hint of something to match the white binding.

Yes, I painted the edges of the TRC, along with the black Pickguardian pickguard and bridge-pickup surround, with flat white water-based acrylic. The buyer wanted the original white, so I swapped them off. The TRC was originally from my Fireglo Laredo, and went to Joey in trade for a standard white (which went on the Laredo). I still have the outlined PG and surround.

Until you're actually holding down the low end with a bass carved from a hunk of abyssal aether torn from the nether realms, strung with the guts of your enemies, amplified through a wall of actual banshees, and held together by the darkest necromancy, you're just playing a bass that's at most, mostly black.

And if you are playing that bass I just described, then I would like to see it, although I will settle for pictures.

So just swapping out for black tuners ain't gonna do it to go beyond mostly black. Hmmmm.....shouldn't be too complicated to find a wall of banshees around Vegas.

Paul, that does look quite sharp. The one thing that has put me off slightly about just a black pick guard is the inconsistency in most photos from one bass to another as to how it actually looks against the bass. Some look like they belong there, many more look like they clash somehow. And I know it has to just be the difference in photography. But here, the white pin striping really delineates where the pick guard should be, kind of maintaining that classic shape without being a hunk of white in a sea of black.

Black sounds better. Always. Unless it's black applied without the true heart of a Rickfreak. Then it makes it sound worse.

Unless, of course, it's black applied to an aged Fireglo, then it just sucks.
