One or two piece necks?

I thought that rickenbacker used one piece maple necks but then I saw this picture???

4003s have 2 piece necks, I don't know how far back it's been done but it's been over 10 years, maybe much longer.

my 81 4003 has a two piece neck. Aren't the 4001 necks with the walnut stripe in the middle three piece?

I have a new 4003 and it has a one piece neck.

I thought the transition was from the three piece neck with stripe to the one piece, but maybe the earlier 4003's had a two piece, which I havn't seen before until I saw the pic posted in this topic.

An interesting thing about my 4004Cii is when you look at the body end of the neck it is three pieces of maple/maple/maple that conform to the three laminations of the maple/walnut/maple of the body.
