How could that be? (ridiculous perhaps...)

Post by sowhat »

hello again,
just something i'm a bit mystified about, concerning two tracks from CD3 of 30th AC. First track is "I don't want to go on..." which is said to have been recorded in January '64 - as far as i remember, Frank Allen wasn't in the band at the time but somehow i hear his voice on the track... Second one is "Once upon a time", recorded May '65 - the leadsinger somehow sounds like Tony Jackson to me... Am i missing something? or something's wrong with my ears?
Confused
Sheena.

The dates were taken from the PYE master tapes. "I Don't Want To Go On Without You" should probably have been written as 12/01/65 as there is another version on a different tape with the date 14/01/65. "Once Upon A Time" has also been given the wrong date as it is on the same master tape as "It's In Her Kiss" which has been given the same date of 20/05/65 and this is obviously a 1964 track from the "It's The Searchers" sessions. There is another tape with "It's The Searchers" tracks on it which has the dates 09/04/64, 13/04/64 & 14/04/64.
As far as I can remember, when the '30th Anniversary' set was being compiled, I was told that PYE engineers had spliced a number of part-tapes together to make up these master tapes. The dates may have got corrupted during this process.
