When did fretboard first extend over body?

Post by beefandbones »

When did Rickenbacker first start extending the fretboards out over the bodies of their guitars? That seems to be the primary difference (along with pickups and knobs), between the old ones and the new ones. I've done some searching and I can't seem to find the answer. Forgive me if I'm blind. Thanks!

Ethan, sometime around 69-70. Thats because Rickenbacker changed from 21 to 24 frets. There was not an exact cutoff date.

That's true. I've seen 21 fret 330s from as late as '75.
