Looks in beautiful condition, real nice fireglo too. looked very quickly so if there is anything wrong I didn't check. Looks almost like a fireglo V63

Caught my eye too. Wish I had the bread. We'll see how the price goes with the current rash of "Rick Madness" on The Bay.

Except for the TRC saying "model 4001" and the added volume and tone controls, I might get on board with that. Did RIC ever make a set-neck 4001?

yep ... there were a few 4001 set necks ... but somebody could also convert a 4000 and put the right plastic and metal parts on ... we may never know for sure ...

Yeah, I saw that, I was thinking that someone had routed the neck for a pu, I wish there were photos of what's under the pickguard.

Aren't all "S" models a mono output anyway?

A year or two ago there was a very similar bass up on eBay: Late-70s/early-80s, burgundy, dot 'board, two pickups and set neck. I called the folks at RIC to get some information on instruments of that era, and if I remember correctly, the "unofficial line" was that yes, there were a few set-neck 4001's made, but that they were be avoided. Shame; I'd love to convert my set-neck 4000 but I wouldn't want to risk compromising that joint....

The guy (or gal) has added pictures of the pots, routs and the neck joint/rout. The finish is in there. Looks legit - funky wire channel too.

Opinions?

I've got a set neck 4001s (1980, probably one of the last set neck ones made) amongst my collection, and I can actually say its the best playing Rick I own, if a little less tonally vibrant than my thru neck Ricks due to the glue join etc, you can hear the difference when played clean. It is probably my favourite 4001, and gets used a lot for the more overdriven stuff, I can nail the early Lemmy sound EXACTLY with this Rick. I personally would have no qualms in buying another one.
