Hard Decision - Help me out!!!

Post by pineder »

Hey all,

First time post, I need some information on my basses. I have 2 1980 4001 basses, both with non-original hardshell cases. Anyway, I have one Azureglo all original (good-excellent condition) and the other is Jetglo all original with black accents (black pick-guard, binding, TRC) MINT! I must sell one and want to ask the professionals which is more RARE or of a lesser production. I am not attached to either one, but I like the classic Rick style and this all black unusual (in a good way). Let me know what you think!

-Joe

This is a link to an image of the basses...ENJOY!

Welcome, Joseph! :D

Is that couch related to Jeff Rath's?

Just me, but I would keep the AZ 4001.

I second that, especially since AZ hasn't been a RIC color since `85.

Well, it depends on whether you need more money. The Azureglo should fetch a few hundred more than the Jetglo. You might be able to get $1500 - $2000 for the AZ if it is truly in excellent condition.

I would think it would fetch the upper end, $2000. The AzureGlo is more valuable, the JG would easily sell. There, big help, huh?!

Welcome aboard.

Thanks guys, I'm still doing some research on both of them. Is it true that only 1% of all Ricks were ever painted Azureglo? I was looking for production numbers for 1980, can't find any info. Jetglo's from that era seem commonplace, finding one with the black accents has proven a harsh reality. Anyway, I guess they are both pretty rare. I just have to decide which one plays the best and go with it, which is a joke...we all know how Ricks play. I may have to sell my soul to keep up with the G.A.S.

If that's the case, then the percentage is getting smaller every day. 8)

If original, this isn't a run-of-the-mill Jetglo. It also isn't Black Trim (it has chrome hardware and white neck binding). Looks like it has double binding on the body, thin white stripe inside and then the black on the outside. Almost like a Shadow. So it's pretty rare and attractive.

The Azureglo looks pretty gorgeous. I'm glad I don't have to make this decision.

Do they play and feel equally well? I'd keep the one that sounds better and/or feels more comfortable.

and in all fairness and actuality, i think the jetglo is probably more rare that the azureglo. yours is only the 4th i have ever seen with the "pinstripe". i am interested if you do decide to get rid of it.

i used to own this 79:
