Yeah seems the Jetglo is the rarer of the two. Personally I like the Azure Blue but it is also probably easier to reacquire if you ever changed you mind and wanted it back.

ilan wrote:If original, this isn't a run-of-the-mill Jetglo. It also isn't Black Trim (it has chrome hardware and white neck binding). Looks like it has double binding on the body, thin white stripe inside and then the black on the outside. Almost like a Shadow. So it's pretty rare and attractive.

The Azureglo looks pretty gorgeous. I'm glad I don't have to make this decision.

Do they play and feel equally well? I'd keep the one that sounds better and/or feels more comfortable.
This is the kind of info I was looking for. I'm having a hard time finding anything on the Jetglo besides what is listed on gbase.

Tell you the truth, I purchased the Azureglo about 7 mths ago and have used it for recording and jam sessions. It gets pretty heavy after a 3 hr session, the Jetglo seems to be lighter and it really is in excellent-mint (could use a buff). I picked up the Jetglo locally for a song and I am really amazed by it. When I purchased it, I knew I would have to get rid of one (have to pay rent). What really stinks is that in 6 mths I will have finished college and money will no longer be an issue.

Is there any reason why I should keep the Azure over the Jet besides color or vice-versa?

I understand the collectability aspect, everything is not based on cash prices with me. I really comes down to which plays best in the end, but I keep having a circular argument in my head. I like the 'classic' Rick style with the Azureglo and it is no longer in production, although this Jetglo is different and know one else has it...any additional insights are VERY WELCOME. Thanks!!

That really is a tough decision!

I'm still confused about what constitutes "black trim" - black pickguard and truss-rod cover? Or does the binding have to be black too? How about hardware? I've got two with everything black - plastic, binding, and hardware - but I also think of my Autumnglo as black trim since it has black pickguard and TRC, even though it has chrome hardware and cream binding. Might have to rethink that...

Anyway, back to your question, I'm leaning towards the Jetglo as the more unique of the two, given the pinstripe - as phlemmy said, you don't see that very often at all. Personally, I like it with the chrome hardware and black plastic, and the pinstripe sets it off nicely. Do you play out at all? Thinking in terms of the kind of music you play and image you want to project might affect your decision. But black goes with anything!

Welcome to the forum, Joe. Like Ilan said, I'm glad I don't have to make this decision either!
I'd keep both of them.
JETGLO should officially be renamed JETGLO ROCKS! :-)

black trim = black trc, pickguard, body/neck binding (although i do consider the 4001 models with black body binding and white neck to be in the BT category)
black hardware = pup surrounds, bridge, tuners

Is there an expression like "black plastic" for instruments that have, well, black plastic but regular binding and hardware?

Joe, if your situation changes in 6 months, I would find a way, ANY WAY, to keep them both. Sell a kidney, sell plasma, sell sperm, something, to keep these babies. What about taking a loan out, either from a CU or the parents?

If it is not possible, I would keep the JetGlo. It is rarer, and as you said lighter. How do the two compare for tone and the style you play?

HAHA!! In all honesty, I've gotten some valid points from members. But the decision can only be made by me...I'm sleeping on it till Sunday.

From time to time Rickenbacker tries different finish options, and some of those one-offs were sold to the public. The pinstripe Jetglo is much more rare than the Azureglo, as it is probably one of those experimental basses, while the Azureglo was a standard finish.

But rarity and collectibility are not always one and the same with Ric basses. For example, one of the 1,000 limited edition Chris Squire signature 4001s will fetch more on eBay than a Shadow, and only about 50 Shadows were ever made (maybe 51 if you include the Shadow prototype with triangular inlays that surfaced on eBay two years ago).

It's difficult to predict which one will fetch more today. The pinstripe Jetglo that was on eBay didn't stir bidding wars, IIRC. The Azureglo, in such good condition, is very desirable and possibly can fetch more.

But from what you write, it seems that you already know the answer: the pinstripe Jetglo speaks to you and the Azureglo doesn't.

Ilan, do you have any pics of the prototype shadow? were the inlays black?

The inlays were the standard triangular type with the poured material. It was a Jetglo/BT with checkerboard/black binding. Shadows didn't have COA's but RIC has a list of serial numbers and that prototype isn't one of them, so officially it wasn't a Shadow.
