Dear Penthouse,
You'll never guess what happened to me today....
BTW, I paid $500 for my 75 4001. 10 years ago.

What bothers me are the namby-pamby "do-gooders" who see a good deal but tell the seller that it should sell for way more, lol! Thanks alot, bucko!
It's happened to me when a seller (who FREQUENTLY sells guitars & parts on Ebay) had a BIN about 1/2 of what the bass was worth. I hit it, PAID for it, THEN people went out of their way to MESSAGE the guy INSULTING him as to what a jerk he was. THAT little "service' cost me an additional $400.00+ to get him to go through with the deal!
Man, was I steamed!
I can understand telling a hapless soul not knowing better selling it in a classified ad or yard sale somewhere, but when you obviously do this to supplement your income, I feel it is the seller's responsibility to do their homework before listing. I have a BUNCH of items from a family member of Robert E. Lee that I've been researching for years just trying to verify the goods.
Buyer beware, SELLER BE AWARE.

It's really a judgement call, but 1/10th is miles away from 1/2, as half is what a lot of BIN prices are really worth. I like to feel good about my purchases, and agree that people should research their deals before posting it. Don't get me wrong, I love a good deal as much as the next guy, but I don't want to have to worry about whether it was stolen, or the product of some awful domestic situation, or really take advantage of some poor old guy selling his kids(whose probably dead)vintage instrument for what the kid paid for it years ago. I don't need the bad vibes in my life, but that's just me.
Anybody selling something on ebay should be held to their BIN period, and any underpricing is strictly the fault of the seller,IMHO. If you went to all the trouble to set up an account, than there's no excuse for not researching it because you obviously have internet access. I don't know anything about craigslist, or any of the other online selling sites, as I have never dealt with them.
Music stores are fair game because it's their job to know, period.
Oh, and if you're going out in the woods to dig a hole,it's gotta be at least 6 feet deep so the dogs can't sniff her out

steve there is no need for apology, i say bravo! you did something nice and i am glad to hear that there are people who care. for me that is big part what is wrong with usa today that people do not care and go for every last penny they can squeeze out of "widows and orphans" and than the same crowd complains about school tax on top of that.atomic_punk wrote:I felt bad because I'm sure the guy was older and didn't have a clue. I figured he could have used the extra money.
BUT......the thought did cross my mind to saddle up and run down there...believe me.

I have to say also that I was differentiating between a "bargain" and blatantly ripping off someone who through whatever reason had unwittingly and unknowingly undersold a very valuable item.
I agree also that one of the problems we have in the world is the "sod you Im alright jack" attitude...... which is ok until it happens to them!
As a kid I always liked the attitude of the Beatles and as I grew up I admired people like George Harrison (and coincidentally this thread includes a Rick 12 string)
who was interested in Karma which seemed like a reasonable theory in some ways and without being "a namby pamby do gooder" I would say you reap what you sow and if thats your input into life (ripping people off...he could have doubled his offer and still come out way ahead on the deal) then its going to come around and get you too.
Ever had your car repaired?
