my "R" tailpiece has irregular string spacing

Post by kiramdear »

Anyone else have this condition? I've always noticed the way my "R" tailpiece looks - the strings are spaced irregularly, not parallel or evenly spread across the top .
When I saw this photo I had to bring it up. This is not my guitar but my 320 has that same irregular spacing at the tailpiece.
Is this just a quirky thing about ricks that I should learn to love?

I don't know, but that looks pretty bad. The knobs look crazy on that one too, are they all like that?

If you mean the spacing of the knobs, yeah, mine look like that. But I hadn't gotten around to being annoyed by them; can't get past the string spacing :)
I was hoping there is some magic bullet cure...

Hmmm, this is odd that this comes up now. I restrung my BBR 360/6 for the first time the other day and noticed the same thing. I know that they were not like this with the original factory string set. I tinkered with a couple - how the balls of the string sat in the tailpiece - and I was able to make most of them fine. However, I did find that I couldn't get the string spacing regular between the D and the A (from the bridge to the tailpiece - obviously the saddles line them up fine for string spacing on the neck itself).

Yeah, it's a strictly cosmetic issue. But it's kinda like a fly on Mona Lisa's nose, a little distracting from the otherwise beautiful sense of design about these guitars.
I'll probably stick the Bigsby back on eventually, but meantime I'm  every time I look at that funky little "R"

Wes, I take it back, about the knobs: those in the picture are cockeyed; the treble tone (lower left) seems out of place compared with my pickguard which seats the big four in a righteous square.
California, huh. Gotta love those guys

Kira, i've found both my RIcks that were fitted with the "R" tailpiece have the same irregular spacing! Doesn't concern me at all, as they play beautifully! I've since replaced the one on my 350 with a Trapeze, but kept the "R" on my 360.
Most of the Ricks my friends own have the same wierd spacing! :?

The only Rick 6 string with an "R" tailpiece that I have owned came with a 12 string "R". The strings would line up perfect as long as you took the time determine which slots to use.
