Sorry this is a bear...More hints:

The UK guitarist hails from Manchester. Both the incredibly successful band he was in and the dance act he had a hit with have sibling overtones. The hit in question was his second with this act. He had a UK number 1 with them in '96 which had totally slipped my mind! :oops:

The US bassist is about as funky as you can get without actually being James Brown. The dance act he had a hit with hails from the deep south of England and is decidedly nerdy in the flesh, which is unsurprising given the mastermind's discarded given name was Quentin....

Im struggling with this ok its got to be noel gallager with the Chemical Brothers song being Setting son but thats it ive buckled on this one ! My brians on the floor bubbling !

Two out of three for the first one Scotty! Noel Gallagher and the Chemical Brothers had a 1999 hit with "Let Forever Be". The vid won all kinds of awards - it is one of my all time favourites - here it is:



On the second part, some more hints: the dance act is extremely prolific - he (a subliminal hint there) also had UK hits with a guitar band in the '80s (in which he played bass) and in a dub-dance collective. He has had a swag of UK top 10s and is reknowned for his heavy use of samples. Regarding the bass-player, the James Brown reference in my last hint is a very pertinient! Finally, the vid has a very left-field dance routine from a well-known actor.

That's 2 out of 3 Greg! - Bootsy sang "Weapon of Choice" with Fatboy Slim, making the UK top 10 in 2000. The vid features a prolonged dance routine by Christopher Walken:

Ok, I'll take it - Marc Bell aka Marky Ramone - he auditioned for another famous proto-punk band in '71 but failed to land the gig - can anyone name the band?

Ive been side tracked by the hilarity on name that tune.Its good to be back on the trivia lets see now.
Which band had a UK number 2 hit in 1967 with `Hole In My Shoe`, which was covered in 1985 by Neil from the TV show `The Young Ones`?

What song was a complete afterthought on the rock opera "Tommy", when the initial tracks were panned as having "heavy spiritual overtones" by a well known critic when Pete Townshend consulted him prior to going into the studio to finish recording this masterpiece? Who was the critic and what was his relationship to Pete if any?

The track was "Pinball Wizard", I believe.
