Hello All! new member here.

Post by Dan_Q »

Hi All,

I've been registered for a while now and I've been using this forum as a reference to find out about rick basses :D I thought it was time I said hello, and thanked you all for the invaluable info! 8) cheers!

Now, a bit about me..... I'm a self taught amateur guitarist, who started learning in the early 90's then peaked in about '96 when I did my first gig playing rhythm guitar in a band. Since then I was "relieved of duty" from the band, my career took over, then I got engaged etc etc so i've just had the odd strum, once every few months, over the years. During that time (about 4 years back) I bought a second hand P-bass copy cos it was going cheap, but never really learnt to play it.

However, a few months back it all went wrong with the fiancee, and we have gone our seperate ways- and for some strange reason I picked up the guitar / bass again, and I can't get enough of it- I'd even go as far as to say its helped me through my troubles! Although I am very rusty!

I promised myself something special- a "bass for life" if I could afford it, once all the paperwork for my house was sorted out. I wanted a rick very much but always thought i'd end up getting a fender because of the price.

Anyhow, after researching on here I decided to stretch my budget that bit further- and I'm now the proud owner of a 4000 bass. I love the thing to bits, although i don't really deserve it as I'm still a beginner! But if anything, its helping me want to get better!

So hello all, and thanks for all the information on this forum. And if you actually read all of that ^^ and stayed awake, well done

+1 on both the welcome and the request for pics. Don't worry about where you are on the path of ability. It's a life long pursuit no matter when you start and a journey worth taking.

Music is meant to provide joy and a respite from the ordinary world we have to live in, making a world that we make the rules in. No one can tell us we're wrong or right, it's just what makes you happy.
Congrats on the 4000 and welcome!

Welcome, Daniel. An interesting tale of yourself. Found it amusing you thought you peaked in '96. Hell, I peaked before I even began to play. Enjoy the forum!

I got my 75 4001 when I was a young pup on bass - maybe playing for 5 months or so. I was already a good piano and trumpet player, so I knew music, but I definitely "grew into" that bass. Still have it 27+ years later, although my 4004L is my main bass now.

Actually my main guitar now is whatever acoustic guitar is near - I'm doing an acoustic duo format now, and singing lead again after 4 years as a bassist/backing vox guy in a cheesy cover bar band.

Sorry to hear about the personal issues - but we all have to go through some tough **** in life sometime. If not, you'll never really be able to appreciate the good times! :D

POST PICS!!!! 4000's are special basses...

Thanks for the warm welcome folks :D yes that is the idea- the chances are i'll never have to upgrade or change it, as long as I look after it- well thats the plan anyway :) nice to know that other bas players have had ricks early on in their learning curve too :)

Come to think of it maybe I did peak before i started! and as for the personal issues- i'm through the worse, and if I do feel a bit bad I'll pick up the rick for a while and all will be well :D

Heres a couple of pics, any comments welcome. Have a couple of closer up pics too if anyones that interested.

Welcome Daniel, and yes, a closeup or two. "But if anything, its helping me want to get better!" Rick basses challenge you to play it as it deserves, and makes it easy for you in the process. Wish I'd had one 37 years ago when I was active.

Right, I had a bit of a nightmare with re-sizing the pics, and as its lunch time i've nipped on a better PC. Its the only size I can get to work on this message board, but heres a few close ups, in link form- as after me playing with them the message board would not recognise the size of them!:

Daniel, dowload Irfanview from here:

It's very good software for image editing and resizing and it's free.

Thanks for the pointer- but I'm at work and our web use is very restriced, and downloads aren't allowed :( thanks though :)

Next time I'm at my dad's place i'll have a look and see what I can do :)

The bass probably looks better than it really is in those pics- although its a lot shinier in real life, there are a few battlescars too :)
