PS sorry for mucking up this thread already, I did have a look before posting and try and make a good job of it. I suppose I'm just a dumbass nOOb making a pigs ear of things.

Welcome, Dan! Don't worry about 'messing up' - we all do that every once in a while!
What year is your 4000? I have a 1977 4000 FL BG, BTW.

Re: Hello All! new member here.
Thanks guys
Its a 1979, and although it looks relatively standard it has been messed around with in the past. I managed to trace quite a bit of its history on here and on ebay believe it or not!
It used to have a jazz bass pickup mounted in the neck position, so it has a route (it is a neat one though, not that it matters!) under the pickguard, and the treble pickup surround was missing and it had a plastic surround.
Since then the last two owners have done rectification work- the jazz pickup was removed, the original pickup was rewound by the great resident sergio silva, the chrome surround is now back in place and the old broken trussrod cover has been replaced- I have pics of the original (with the model number on there) fitted to the guitar though.
So its as much as it can be back to original, and although I plan to keep it that way, maybe one day I may do a 4001 conversion on it, but for the time being its staying as - is.
Condition wise as you might imagine for a 29 year old well played bass it has its fair share of scratches, knocks and dinks, which I like, and a nice impact rash near the jack plug socket where its has a fall or two in the past. Despite this (pics don't show this too well) the finish is still nice and deep, although it is showing signs of age (very small cracks) in places. Also at some point it has been used by a lefty, as the upper bout has a couple of filled holes where a strap pin would have been.
its not my first bass by the way, my first is an encore P-Bass which I bought about 4 years ago for £15, thats $30 ish! Its being passed on to my brother as he fancies giving bass a try.
