yes the v68 reissue is a great idea ... the v63 and c64 reissues were both s models ... neither had the classic binding and triangular inlays that are ric signature features ...
so it would be similar to a 4003 in that it would have the new neck and truss rods ... but it would be different in that it would have full width neck inlays, and checkered binding, (there are a lot of ric players who are dying to have those two features), and of course walnut headwings, and it would have the v63 pickguard, toaster and reissue horseshoe pickups, and a mono output since stereo was an option and not standard in '68.
List price ... $1795.00 ??? these would definately become collector's items ...
If Ric doesn't have the manufacturing capacity ... then they should stop making guitars and focus on basses ... well that won't happen ...

I don't think that was a thud, just a warm up for a $3000+ price tag if a v68 model ever comes to fruition. Hey, if people are paying $5K+ for Rics that have 1000 units in circulation, why wouldn't Ric build more limited guitars in that price bracket, especially if they could get deposits for them two years in advance?

Having had an ex wife and many friends that are Japanese, I think I can say the Japanese (in my experience)don't mind premium prices for collectable or perceived collectable items. When I was playing with vintage VW's, all the best most expensive went over there, and prices were subsequently driven up. They are an appreciative market. Perhaps they are rewarded by Rickenbacker for their reverence of the product. Or maybe they're one big Rickenbacker test market.
