I was listening to some of my favorite tracks from YT and have just watched the high numbers again from The Railway Hotel, 1964.

"The Who will be the Classic Rock act in the spotlight at this year's V-H-1 Rock Honors. The event will take place July 12th at the Pauley Pavilion in Los Angeles and air on V-H-1 July 17th. Pearl Jam and Foo Fighters have been recently added to the line-up. The Who will close out the night by performing their own set. Pearl Jam's involvement at the show is not surprising -- Eddie Vedder has repeatedly cited Pete Townshend as a big influence and has performed with Townshend at various events, and the entire band has played numerous Who covers throughout their career."

I'm not mad. I'm not selfish. I really have to be strong enough to admit that today. I really do not have a clue what to do next." He had agreed to head into the studio in September, and one of the thoughts bantered about was an album of R-and-B covers with producer T-Bone Burnett. There was also talk of doing a few shows."

Who saw Pete and Roger rock and roll on VH1 Rock Honors?
They were pretty good, IMO. They played a completely live show, and nothing went wrong! They played "Baba O'Riley", "Who Are You", "Behind Blue Eyes", "My Generation" and "Tea at the Theatre" (I don't know the exact title of this song, I'm guessing it's from "Endless Wire"). Pete smashed nothing, Roger sang as well as he could and it was fantastic. No doubt clips will be on YouTube tomorrow, but still, a heck of show!

Just saw that on VH1. It would have been nice to hear the guitar, and that bass player wasn't very interesting(tone was like a wet dog, IMHO). Everything else was great, and yes, I agree Roger is one of the best rock vocalists ever!

Pino Palladino may be a good bass player in the studio, but his tone won't ever match Entwistle's as he goes for a purer bass tone instead of having that huge dichotomy of treble and bass. Pearl Jam and Foo Fighters rocked! So many brilliant songs. Townshend and Daltry were amazing. Good show except Adam Sandler, who should be banished from earth.

Saw it yesterday from start to finish, and managed to tape it as well! It really was something else!
Today, I got a copy of "The Kids Are Alright" in the mail. It's an amazing documentary. Too bad the director's cut did not include ALL the songs on the accompanying soundtrack album, particuarly "My Wife" from the '78 Shepperton shoot. It's one of John Entwistle's best songs with the band, and it needed to be in the film.
All in all, it was a great film that covered a lot of information and material. The best clips were "Baba O'Riley" and "Won Get Fooled Again" from Shepperton, "My Generation" form the Smothers Brothers show and "A Quick One" from the Stones' Rock & Roll Circus

I recently watched "The Kids Are Alright" again. Townshend's comment about listening to a Beatles stereo record where the vocals came out one side and the backing tracks the other was - priceless.

Let's just say that I am one of the original American Who fans-since 1965, when I saw them on the TV show Shindig, and started devouring British mod magazine Rave, looking for info on them. I knew about them before all my friends, and bought every single, every album, and saw them for the first time in 1967 on their second US tour. Have seen them about 15 times total over the years, and they remain one of my favorite bands of all time, along with The Byrds. However, I refuse to pay $200 to see them this time on their next tour. That's too much money, and it isn't the same with Moon and Entwistle gone.
I even own the left half of a Fiesta Red Telecaster body Pete smashed in Asbury Park, NJ. And no, it's not for sale!
One of the highlights of the '06 NAMM show was meeting Keith's daughter, Mandy. She looks like him. Very nice lady.

You're truly a dedicated Who fan! It must have been fun seeing them for the first time in '67, no? What songs do you remember them playing? I bet Pete was on a Strat he later beat to smithereens! How were you able to get the (half) Tele body? Yesterday, I ordered (from Amazon) The Who Sings My Generation (the first album, with nothing but Ric jangle coming from Pete!), The Who by Numbers, Who Are You and Odds and Sods. I'm excited about getting them, and am anxiously waiting for them.
Also yesterday, I went into the local Best Buy and picked up Quadrophenia. That album is something else! My favorite songs are "5:15", "Love Reign O'er Me", "The Real Me" and "Drowned".
After the four CDs from Amazon arrive, I'll be posting a revised list of my favorite Who tracks, so look forward to that!
