Another New Guy
Hello all! I am finally back in the Ric fold as of this week. I did have a really nice '73 FireGlo 4001 18 months ago, but an inept repair person did a number on it. The store ended up buying it off me for what I had in it, but I sure missed that bass and have been looking around for another since. But that's a tale for another time.
A little bio - I've been playing since 1968 and have been gigging steadily since the mid 80's. My current assemblage is just under 2 dozen basses that cut a pretty broad swath as far as brands and types but I've never got into Rics until recently. After that 4001 I knew I had to have at least one....(hope the wife doesn't see this)..... Anyway, I'm starting with this one and here it is.
The story - seller had it listed as a '76 4001. I win the auction, get the bass and find out it's really an '86 4003. But when I cleaned it up (I don't think anyone ever wiped it down - ever! it was filthy) it looked to be in excellent condition. After checking with a dealer buddy of mine I found I wasn't snookered pricewise so I decided to keep it. White with B/T, now a nice vintage yellow. I've lurked through here and there are some incredibly nice pieces, but I'm quickly becoming enamored with this one. Used it for the first time this weekend on a couple of gigs and it sounded and played great!! I'm very pleased to add it to my roster.

That's my favourite colour combination, along with the Turqoise ones.
And welcome. Another familiar name;)

Hey Chris - I thought I might run into some familiars!

Cool axe. Glad you like it.
What other basses do you use a lot?
BTW - welcome!

I'm very comfortable with Jazz neck profiles so I've got several variants (only one Fender though). I also really like my ASAT and MM Sterling. Having said that I am also very partial to a C necked '88 62RI P that sounds wonderful. What other basses do you use a lot?
This Ric has got me excited like I haven't been in a while though not quite in a cold shower way.
What I mean is I find myself looking forward to playing it. I can definitely see another Ric in my future.
I had been shopping for a v63 and actually bought one in MapleGlo. I get it and the neck is shot - it had begun to pivot towards the bridge with the pivot point between the toaster and the end of the fingerboard. The fingerboard itself was straight, but with the bridge bottomed out the action was still unplayable past the 7th fret. The seller was very accomodating and offered no resistance to a full refund so I let it go.
Cheers!

Re: Another New Guy
welcome,vas! yeah,great color combo,
,see my avatar....any bongo's in your stable?
Re: Another New Guy
Thanks all.
Honestly, I'll have to try one out. But, though I've heard great things about them, I don't feel the draw, ya know? Besides the Ric, my current favorite is an Urge II - I like it a lot. Really well done by Fender IMO.
For some variety I also have an Alembic MK Std, Steinie XL-2 (in white), a TBird (also in white), a LPB-2, an '81 Mockingbird and a Haggy Coronado IV with Bi-Sonics. I have a few things up for sale and once the smoke clears I'll be looking into a v63 or a c64 - unless of course a really smokin' 4001 shows up.....
