That looks very much like a 1967 FG shade, with a RI HS pick up fitted, and non original guard.

I have to say that the 63 FGs I've held have had similar shading and
the same shaped HS surround( a 63 4001 the was once Steve Fossen's then Mike Lull's comes to mind).
The lack of a tug bar(if that's the reason) doesn't make me think RI guard; my 64 didn't have one.
Look at the peghead; it's shaped like the 63 4001 held by Mr Buckner in R Smith's book....
The 3 screw TP does look a little squared off tho... Like a c64 TP. V63 TPs are either 5 or 7 screw; never
seen a 3 screw on one....

Makes you think.....

The Vintage File is printed at the top left corner of the picture. I don't think they would have considered the bass to be vintage in 1963.

To me, the surround dosen't look like those I've seen on a RM 1999. I'm gusessing it's a later model with a V63 surround perhaps. Plus, it has no finger rest on the pickguard. It does have a nice shade of FG on it though. All in all, a nice looking bass.

I know you did matey 8) I have the thread printed off for future reference  great work by the way sir

I like it the way it is for now, so I'm just gonna play the *** off it for the time being. Once some GAS kicks in, a little project like that could put it off a few more years  so i'll never say never :)
